In my house- yes b/c I know that it wouldn't be lasting that long with my dogs and what they would do to it. But if you know it's gonig to last you awhile and you LOVE it then I say go for it!

Nice rugs are expensive, and that is not even *that* bad-- but for a dining room, where the rug is going to get a lot of wear and tear-- I am not sure, unless you know the quality is great and it will hold up.
Although you can look at it like this-- is it ridiculous to spend $500 on a rug now, then another $500 when you need to replace that one?
I personally would rather the more expensive, better quality one that will last-- but definitely ensure that the quality is there. Unless you can find something really cheap-- like the $180 8x10 I found at Homegoods!!

I personally wouldn't because it wouldn't last in my house with two kids that are always spilling things at the table. I would consider it for my living room but only if its good quality and I was totally inlove with it

In my shoes, yes. Not only could we not afford it, but with our dog, 9 month old DS, it just wouldn't be wise. But, if we had the money, and it was of high quality, then absolutly!! Go for it!!

yes! what is it made of gold thread? 
but seriously, if you can afford that than go for it, for us that is just not even an option. I got a perfectly nice one at JCP and this way in a few years when I decide I may want something else, it wont hurt so bad

But we also have an open dining room, DSs playroom is right off it, and we are all in and out of that room.

I wouldn't spend that much on a rug, even if I had the money to blow on a rug.
But everyone is different and if you have it to spare on a good quality rug then go for it.

if you love it, then i don't think so. for me personally, i don't eat in my dining room every day - we have an eat-in kitchen and the dining room is for special occasions, so it'd probably last years and years. plus, i have a verrry hard time finding area rugs that i love - so if i loved it, then i'd get it.

thats the thing....i cant find anything i like that goes with our taste and decor because the dining room and living room flow into each other and there is already an area rug in the living room that it has to coordinate with.
and usually i wouldnt be a fan of a rug under a dining table but the floors just got redone a very dark stain and all you see is dust under the table and it looks so bare in the room!
obv i think its a lot of money too if im asking haha.
