What can you get DC for Xmas that is not a toy?

DS has SO many toys, and his playroom is bursting at the seams. I dont want to get him a ton of toys for Christmas, but Im having a hard time coming up with alternatives.

I know there is always clothes, but thats so boring for him. His book shelf is full too!

What are some good non-toy gift ideas?

I'm thinking of getting DD a table with chairs, so she can color, paint, draw, read at her own table.

Magazine subscriptions - my kids love when they come in the mail

Coupons they can redeem for things like Lunch with Dad, Movie with Mom and Dad, Trip to XYZ park. I forget how old your DS is, he might be too young for that.

This year I really wanted to put a bow on the kids suitcases and put them under the tree, and then tell them that they needed to pack b/c the next day we'd be going on a trip, but it doesn't look like DH will be able to get off work.

we have done -entertainment gifts for cousins

movie tickets- and maybe of computer print out of a miovie he wants to see if you are givign - i would just make home made tickets- and just have him pay that day instead of buying tickets ahead of time

aother activiy places - pump it up, WPF, play places, ice rinks

any sport you want him to try and gear

a sled for outside

if ou are going on a trip - we have have done disney dollars or bush garden's gift cards and then i put them into something related to the gift card or i fold interestly

HOnestly I just dont get him ALOT. He is young enough that he doesnt expect it yet. Also he gets 4 lots of christmas toys (christmas eve, then at my ILs, at my family and at our house) that by the time he is at the last place he has little interest in the gifts.

But other ideas are arts and craft supplies, DS loves when I get the $1 wooden/ceramic things from AC moore for him to paint ( or they can use markers on the wood ones) water color books, stickers of any kind, scissors, glue sticks etc. He gets so excited for this...

Oh also I got DS a subscription to High Five mag, its made by highlights but is for the younger ones. It was $30 for 1 year and I thought he would get excited to get it in the mail each month.

But I also have a kid who was nearly jumping up and down when my ILS brought him a banana one day!

Books, art supplies, and as others have said something special, maybe a play for children or music program or such.

I'm getting DD a table and chair set from Val - Do me a Favor with the Yo Gabba Gabba theme and a stool for brushing her teeth and getting on the toilet.

My mom got her a table and chair set last Christmas and she loves it so I figured I get one for our house

How old is he?
How much did you want to spend?

I know DS likes helping me in the kitchen - so maybe a kid size cooking set with a box of brownies and some cookie mixes that you can make together?

Does the toy room need organizing? Maybe more storage items.
When people ask me what to get DS, I try to steer them to items that have self storage. There is the great easle at Target, all boxes of stuff (legos, arts/crafts, cookware) and the top flips down and acts as a play area. Then all the boxes store underneath it.

Does he have his big boy bed yet?

Arts and crafts... sports related stuff for outside... last year I bought Alex dance classes for Chanukah!

A piece of furniture or something decorative for his room/playroom?

I got my niece a sub to SportsIllustrated for Kids one year, she loved that...

I got my other niece a birdhouse when they moved to the "country" - big big hit...

What about a small fish tank and a few fish??? Not sure if that's allowed where you live, some boards restrict it... but even a hamster or a lizard could be fun and would be a "learning" gift without the high-maintenance of a dog!

Grace is dying for a rolling back pack. She has wanted one forever. So that will be one of her gifts.
I have a DH who is obessed with a clean house so toys are kept to a minimum

We bought DS a solar system that goes on the ceiling - it lights up and the planets orbit the sun

CD/alarm clock/radio and CD holder (ours looks like a teddy bear)

We always get DD tix to see something.

Her 2nd birthday was The Wiggles, Xmas was Sesame Street Live and her 3rd birthday was Yo Gabba Gabba. We figured this is a nice tradition to get in to and eventually when she is older we can do Broadway shows, Xmas Spectacular, etc.
