Staircase banister color

The steps to the upstairs are wood, the landing is either wood laminate or slate flooring (can't remember exactly for some reason but I want to say slate)and upstairs the hallway is wood... the banister is currently painted green and peeling. We eventually will change the whole thing out, but for a temporary fix we are thinking of having it painted when we paint the rest of the house.

Would you do white or black paint? Or another color? DH said white, but I'm thinking black. Our paint colors are tans and greens from BM's serenity and tranquility collections. The hallway color is "Peaceful Breeze" with white trim on the mouldings throughout. I thought black since the banister I eventually want has black iron with wood top (what you hold on to).

Thank you! I'm very bad with this stuff! My former house had 1 color upstairs and 1 downstairs... but it was small so it made sense... this is a whole new world to me so thank you!!
