If you clean a little each day,
how do you break it up?
I always make Saturday my big cleaning day, but since having DD - I don't waste my whole Saturday cleaning (takes me three hours usually).
I was thinking of doing: Monday: bedroom dust and windex Tuesday: living room dust and windex Wednesday: kitchen, sweep, mop Thursday: sort and start laundry Friday:finish laundry and water plants Saturday: change sheets, vacuum living room and bedroom, bathroom, vacuum stairs Sunday: day of rest
Everyday: tidy up, wipe down counters and bathroom, try to vacuum more lol

It breaks it up into manageable goups so that you aren't overwhelmed in one day.

I second Flylady. She sends out an email each day with a list of stuff you should do daily ("swish and swipe" the bathroom, make the bed, I forget the rest, I've fallen off the wagon ) Each day also includes a short task that only takes about 15 minutes). It is a great resource.

Re: If you clean a little each day,
You could try one day doing all the bedrooms, another the bathrooms, then the last day the living room and kitchen. I would do the floors of each of the those rooms on the day you clean.
I will say though, and this is just my opinion, I tried doing breaking it up at I had my kids and I felt like I was ALWAYS cleaning and not just straightening up and it was so annoying. I never felt like my house was all clean at once. I know 3 hours seems like a lot of time to take out of a family day, but I noticed if DH took care of the kids and left me alone, I started early (around 8 or 9 am) I was done a lot faster and wasn't wasting the day away.

Re: If you clean a little each day,
I've tried to do what you do. Dust and Windex one day, vacuum the next ... but I hated it.
I would rather do one room at a time and have it completely done than have every room half done. So usually, I do bedrooms one day, the rest (dining room, living room, den) another day. The kitchen is wiped & swept every day and the floor is mopped every few days. The house gets straightened every day (papers, pillows, beds, toys, etc). The bathrooms are wiped down with clorox wipes every day and scrubbed 2x per week usually.
Laundry is done 2x per week (usually).
And as a SAHM, for me, I make it so everything has to be done by Friday 5pm. That means the laundry basket is empty and all the laundry is away. The sheets are changed and the towels are cleaned. The bathrooms are spotless and the rest of the rooms are dusted, mopped, clean and neat. That way, I wake up Saturday morning with DH & DS and enjoy my weekend with them. Also, if we make last minute plans or someone decides pops in on Saturday, the house is ready for guests. Sunday night I usually do a quick straighten & clean up. Then it starts all over again for the next week. It works for me and I feel as if I am “off” on the weekends too.

I think this is the best idea! I try so hard to do that too but I work part time out of the house and then another 1-2 days from home so its sooo hard

Re: If you clean a little each day,
i can't do this because usually something happens each day (especially when DH cooks) that i have to do it almost every day or every few days.. I will wait until the weekends to clean the bathrooms though since its time consuming.

This would be my biggest issue. Right now its Saturday afternoon and my house is spotless - and I feel good about the week! As dorky as that sounds, I would definitely miss that feeling.
I am going to give the new system a shot next week when I go back to work -- if it doesnt work I will just wake up on Saturday like I am going to work (yuck! LOL) and clean then! Maybe after we can enjoy a family nap!
Thanks for all the replies!

You don't sound dorky at all. My kids are not aloud on the floor I am cleaning. Once I am done on that floor they can't go back up there until the entire house is done. I want to have at least 5 minutes were I can look around not see toys, books, blankets on the floor and it looks like only adults live here .

I second Flylady. She sends out an email each day with a list of stuff you should do daily ("swish and swipe" the bathroom, make the bed, I forget the rest, I've fallen off the wagon ) Each day also includes a short task that only takes about 15 minutes). It is a great resource.
I am gong to have to check that site out because I feel like my house is about to implode. I have lost control since having DS #2.

I also love flylady! It may sound silly, but, in some ways, her techniques changed my life!

Re: If you clean a little each day,
You could also do a hybrid of the two methods.
Stealing/Paraphrasing from the flylady-
Once a week, spend an hour cleaning everything, but don't obsess.
During the week, straighten/wipe down as needed.
Each night spend 15 minutes in the "zone of the week" doing a deeper cleaning project, like dusting knick knack, cleaining off the top of the fridge, etc.
That way you still get that Saturday mroning, fresh start feeling, but it doesn't take as long. And the zone projects keep you form having to do a major "srping" cleaning, or "pre-company" cleaning.

Re: If you clean a little each day,
Another vote for flylady here! I started in January, and by the time a month was up, there was a HUGE difference in my house - CONSISTENTLY, not just "it's clean today, but tomorrow it will look like a bomb went off."
When I got pg, I fell off the wagon, but since DD2 got here, I'm trying to get back on. Her tips are really helpful, and not overwhelming at all.
