One of my worst fears realized today...
This morning I was changing DS's diaper and putting lotion on him. He is almost 7 months old and will not sit still, constantly trying to flip over and take a nose dive off the changing table. It's always a battle so most of the time I just change him on the floor. Well, today he flipped over and dived at the same time as I was lotioning his legs. I tried grabbing him by the ankles but he was slippery because of the cream and he fell to the floor with a big THUD followed by the most heart-wrenching sobs I have ever heard come out of my little boy
I couldn't get him to stop crying for 6-7 minutes. Rushed him to the pediatrician and thankfully he's ok....just a little rug burn or possible bruise on his cheek but I am completely shaken up. I can't stop crying and everytime I sit to relax I keep reliving that awful THUD and seeing him laying on floor with a look of terror in his eyes I feel so awful. Why didn't I just change him on the floor as usual? DH and my pediatrician both kept saying I shouldn't beat myself up over it but I can't help it.

Re: One of my worst fears realized today...
You did the right thing by going to the pedi. Don't worry, he is fine! It happens to all of us at one point or another. My dd took a fall at 12months and she was fine! They will forget right away, but you will never

Re: One of my worst fears realized today...
I know how hard that is.... but accidents do happen. Please don't beat yourself up over it. Babies move alot...speically once they get older. DS is 8.5 months old and he NEVER sits still... and just keeps going. He fell several times, and he's perfectly fine.

Re: One of my worst fears realized today...
Dont beat yourself up, all that matters is that he is ok!!! It was an accidenta nd you did everything you could to prevent it. These boys are very active and things are just bound to happen. You are a GREAT mom and Adam is ok, and one day we will all tell him the story. I am sure you will tell Michael about getting himself out of his high chair and THUD onto the floor when he was 6 months old.

Re: One of my worst fears realized today...
Same thing happened to me over the summer with my DD who was 7 months at the time. I was putting sun tan lotion on her and she went over the changing table backwards and landed on her head. I think my heart stopped beating. I still get so upset when I think about it. Don't beat yourself up about it though....accidents happen.

No matter what I always second guess what I do with Albert..maybe it's just a part of being a parent. It definitely is not your fault..but I undertand how you feel. Thankfully he is Ok

Re: One of my worst fears realized today...
The weekend before DDs 1st birthday, I had both girls on my bed after their bed doing the whole lotion/diaper/PJs thing. Julie fell off the bed when I was distracted by Becky and dislocated her shoulder. OMG, it was one of the worst parenting moments of my life
When my son was 10 months old, he figured out how to unbuckle himself from the high chair. I didn't realize he was in possession of this knowledge, and went to the kitchen to get something. He unbuckeled the strap, stood up, and launched himself off the table, breaking his front tooth off in the dining room table Blood everywhere, ambulance ride, dental surgery... it was awful.
But you know what? Acidents happen. As a parent, you have to cut yourself some slack. You are only one person, and you do what you can do. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to beat yourself up too much about it

I agree - don't beat yourself up over this. You aren't alone in finding out how strong they are when they don't want their diaper changed.

Re: One of my worst fears realized today...
I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. Sounds like your DS is fine so don't be too hard on yourself. You were doing what you thought was best at that moment given whatever else was going on. Hindsight is 20/20.

Re: One of my worst fears realized today...
dina, accidents happen. i know its hard to forgive yourself but they do. i know you would do anything to protect adam and it was an accident. he is fine, will be fine, you're the one who is hurt more by the fall.
mia was sitting on her changing table and i was playing with her after i dressed her. she dropped a toy and i bent down to pick it up. she must have reached for me while i was down and fell as i was coming up. scared the living crap out her and me. i don't think i've ever moved that fast to pick her up (other than the sophie incident). he will be okay and you're still a great mommy!

Don't beat yourself up.. He is going to wipe out 1000 times more. My ds just face planted off out high kitchen chair. I walked over, no blood ok.. He climbed up again. They are super tuff.
