please help! DD hates the carseat
im going out of my mind. Since birth DD has always cried in the carseat. I thought it was a newborn thing. She's now 15 weeks and still crying. At 6 weeks we drove into queens for a party to celebrate HER and she cried the 40 minutes nonstop. Today, we just tried to go to babies r us in westbury which is like a 15 minute drive for us. She cried the whole way there....once we got into the store she wouldnt stop, so i had to pick her up and walk with her. When we leave I put her back in her seat and she cries as soon as shes put in the car. She is wailing, pounding her fists on the carseat, crying so hard she cant breathe or starts to choke - the whole way home. We have been taking her out everyday to try to get her used to it but the same thing happens. We make up things to buy just so we have somewhere to take her....but the same result. One day last week, I tried to take her for a walk - no car. She cried again and I only made it 10 minutes out of the house. What gives? What kid doesnt like sitting in the stroller or car seat?
She has toys on her seat that can occupy her for maybe 5 minutes. She doesnt take the pacifier. I have tried to take her out after a feeding or after a nap but the same thing happens. Does anyone have experience with this or know of anyone who has dealt with this? This is really hindering our family time. I feel like we can't do anything fun as a family or we cant go to a lot of places because DH and I just dont have the energy to put up with it. We're not going anywhere far as it is, i can't imagine a longer drive. We sit there in the car in silence just waiting for the car ride to be over. At first I would try to occupy her, but now, I can only just ignore her and stare out the window. I want to comfort her but she won't have it. Any advice out there? TIA!

Re: please help! DD hates the carseat
my DD screamed at the sight of the infant carrier/carseat.
at 12 weeks i switched her to her convertible and she was much better, she still cried but it wasnt so bad.
i realized my DD just didnt like being backwards, and i was right.
we took a 2.5 hour trip when she was just shy of 11 months old and we turned her FF and she has been a dream ever since (she is 15 months now)
i would try a convertible car seat

Re: please help! DD hates the carseat
DD hated the carseat from about 3-5 months. I mean HATED. She cried so hard she would sometimes spit up and choke. Then overnight (literally) she just stopped. It was a miracle! lol I'm not sure why but she just stopped. About a week after that we switched to the convertible car seat and havent heard from her since

Re: please help! DD hates the carseat
DS was/is the same way and he's 7 months old now. I haven't switched him to the convertible carseat but am planning to this weekend. I'm that he likes it more, everyone I've spoken to says it's better. Like you, I just give him different toys, sing to him, play peekaboo, etc. to distract him (which only works sometimes). If DH and I are both in the car, I sit in the back with him. It's very stressful!

Seriously! I havent even drove with her alone yet because I dont think I could deal with the screaming alone.

Re: please help! DD hates the carseat
DD was just like that! It was a nightmare driving anywhere with her. And then, just like that, she stopped. I got one of those mirrors that go on the headrest of the seat so I could see her and she loves looking at herself in it. She is still in the infant carrier at 7 months, but she is really good in the seat now!

Awesome! Do you remember when she suddenly stopped?

Re: please help! DD hates the carseat
My DD is 15 weeks tomorrow, and is the same way, but only in the car. She's fine in the stroller, its so weird. I try to time my trips to stores and stuff after she eats so she'll fall asleep...but she usually wakes up when we stop at a red lights or get off the LIE..its BRUTAL!! I find myself cutting through parking lots to avoid lights. She screams so hard its awful. My first DD was like this too...I think it stopped somewhere around 5-6 months. I'm praying it stops sooner this time.
