Do you HAVE to register at Babies R Us?

Based on all of the horror stories I've heard, I have little interest in going in there to register and be tethered to the issues I keep reading about...I was thinking of doing Buy Buy Baby (I was overwhelmed at first but now that I equate it with a baby's Bed Bath and Beyond, I'm ok ) and maybe Target...I feel like everyone has a Target and they have a lot of essentials...my mom suggested Macy's for some things but I am not a fan of that store in general, either (picky shopper, I guess)....what are you guys' thoughts/opinions? Thanks!

I think thats a great idea. I registered at BRU and BBB and if I had to do it again I wouldn't have registered at BRU at all. Their policies just suck! The good thing about BRU is that there are so many of them around but Target would be an even better replacement.

I registered at Target.. but also BRU. I wanted to register at BBB (i just like them better) but there aren't as many stores on LI as BRU so I tried to make it easier for everyone. In the end I wish I just registered with BBB

I've never even been in a Baby's R Us. I registered at Buy Buy Baby, Target, and on Amazon.com. I can't see any reason to go into BRU at this point... could they possibly have anything I've missed? My shower invites went out today, so I'd be happy to tell you which registries get used more than others if that helps. Give me a few weeks.

I am not registering at BRU for the same reason you don't want to....So Instead I'm only registering at BBB (which has everything you could need) and also at Giggles which is located in the city and also in Manhassett. I figured I'll register for my essentials at BBB and all of the cute baby "stuff" like toys and accessories at Giggle. Good luck!

We registered at BBB only and everything has been just fine. Their return policy makes them better IMO.

No. I honestly wanted to register at Buy Buy Baby. However, DH brought up the point that 90% of our friends don't live anywhere near a BBB and they usually buy their gifts at the store. We are registered at BRU and Amazon (for just a few higher-ticket items that can't be found anywhere else!).

I was SO not that impressed with BRU. Went to BBB today and I really liked it, so that is where we'll register. Not sare where else.

No not really. I only registered at BBB and whoever does not live nearby a BBB ordered items online or are giving cash. No problem!

Thanks for the continued input...I was thinking Target and BBB since there are Targets everywhere and they really have everything and a lot of basics...will people stick their noses up at Target? I love it there!

I personally love target but when I went to get a gift for someone at Target the other day off their registry and they had nothing in stock. I hear bad things about Targets.... I really wanted to register at BBB but no one but me lives close to it.

Lulu, thanks for your input about Target, I guess I would think about registering for things that would be in stock pretty consistently-although none of this is written in stone...

As for BRU, many ladies complain about the return policy and the staff that work at the stores not being consistent/competent (although that could be anywhere), etc. and I just don't want added stress if I can help it, KWIM? I'd love to hear positives, but seems the negatives outweigh them...

I think that in my case with family and friends, if I would have only done BBB, I wouldnt have gotten a lot off the registry. Some people hate shopping online and wait till the last minute. There are only a handful of them around.

I registered at both and def got WAY more stuff at BRU.

Target....they constantly change their inventory, so I found nothing was in stock and just registered there with like 2 items so I could get a 25 dollar gc (they were doing a promotion at the time)

BTW I never had a problem with BRU. As long as the item is on your reigstry, they returned it no problem. It is when people give you stuff not on your registry without a gift receit that it is a problem.

So....even if you dont register there, people might still give you gifts from there. Either way you will be dealing with them IMO

I registered at Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby. BBB was definitely easier with their return policy. Target would be a good spot too. They have lots of stuff, but they are also a little difficult with returns.

With DS I only registered at BRU and really didn't have any problems. Except for trying to return something that was bought of my registry online. They wouldn't take it back. Said they couldn't recognize it in the database. But it really wasn't a big deal since it was a towel. I just kept it.

Anyway, you don't have to register anywhere you don't like. I never would think Macy's for a baby registry. You can just to BBB if you want. Even if people don't have one in their they can still make purchases online.

As far as target goes, if you register IN the store (as opposed to creating your registry online) many more of the items will be available in the store for people to purchase. Once you start adding to the registry online with Target, all those items you add will most likely be "unavailable in store" -- kinda strange how they do that, but that's how it is.

So far, I've had 6 items bought off my amazon registry, 4 off my target, and 1 off my BBB. (Most local people where I am don't go to BBB because the only one is in Durham kinda far away.)

I'm not doing BRB mostly because the one closest to my house gives me serious anxiety as it is ALWAYS packed. I'm actually only doing BBB and Giggle. It's sort of a pain for out of town people since they don't have either of those stores where my husband is from, but his family is from so far away that they would have to send things regardless. I know people that have done online only registries (Albee) baby and didn't have a problem. If you don't like BRB no need to register there. There are so many other options out there.

We didn't do BRU-

We registered at Buy Buy Baby and Giggle-because both places have great websites, and the majority of our families are internet shoppers.
