Fighting his naps!
I dont know what to do anymore!! I tried everything, DS is 9m old. I walk with him, he'll sleep for 20 mins. I drive with him and let him sleep in the driveway parked and Ill sit outside waiting for him to wake up, he'll sleep for maybe 20-30 mins. He wont sleep in his crib. I let him CIO up to an hour, he'll sleep for 30 mins. Hes soooo tired. Its not enough. I let him play hoping he'll crash, he gets overtired. I try putting him in the crib as soon as he gets a little bit tired and he cries and screams. Idk what to do anymore. I need any advice at all. I'm so frustrated and I feel so bad for him.
ETA: I try his bedtime routine give him his bottle in the rocking chair with the sound machine on he freaks as soon as I put him in the crib.

Re: Fighting his naps!
DS was a little younger than yours when he was fighting his naps but I got the FP Rainforest Soother and it helped him. He used to watch it and then fall asleep.

Re: Fighting his naps!
Ok, you know what I'm going to say - but you need to do CIO fully for naps.
I swear, I don't even watch for Tyler's cues anymore - I just know when he's going to sleep. It's a set time every single day. Somedays he may go in the crib and fall right asleep, somedays he may go in the crib and play around for 15-30 minutes.
At that age I followed the rule of taking a nap after being awake for two hours. So let's say he woke up at 7 - put him in the crib at 9. Give him a bottle right before he goes down. Turn on your sound machine, so that he knows it's naptime.
Then say he wakes up at 10:45. Put him back in the crib at 12:45.
You get the idea. But, the first few days he will cry and he will fight the nap. Let him do what he needs to until he falls asleep. Don't go in!

Re: Fighting his naps!
He woke up at 6:15am so at 8am I started a new naptime routine which is his bedtime routine. It took him until 8:35 to fall asleep which isnt terrible hes just screaming and crying . At night hes great though, if he cries at all its for maybe 1 minute. I feel like I'm making him miserable during the day, but hes a big crankpot if he doesnt nap enough anyway. I guess he'll get used to it, right?
In the morning he can only stay awake 2 hours. In the afternoon he can go like 3-4 hours. Since he only takes 2 naps, his naps are like 8:30am and 1/2pm.

That sounds like you did a great job this morning, and I don't think 35 minutes is a long time to fall asleep. They need to unwind.
Usually Tyler wakes up at 5 - then will take a quick 20 minute nap and is up at 6:15. I push him to go down for a nap at 9:15 bc I drop Jack off at school. He wakes at 11:10 (I wake him for pickup) and then he goes down at 1:30ish. He will usually fall asleep at 2 and wake at 3:30. He then goes to bed at night around 6:30/7 (in the crib no later then 6:30) so he only gets the two naps too.

35 minutes is not bad at all! DD is younger, 6months, but she was a TERRIBLE napper!! But I tried to be consistent, doing EXACTLY what you are doing and after a few days it is so much easier to put her down. The first time she wailed for almost 45 minutes, then 25, 15, 10, 5...it takes a few days for them to get it, but he will get it. Keep up the good job, it is so HARD but worth it in the end.

Thanks Diana! Omg! 2 hours! He just woke up at 9:15! After 35 mins of crying, he only slept 40 mins! I guess we're doing our errands early today. He used to sleep 2/3 hours at a time. Idk why I wasnt always beautiful. I had all the time in the world! Now I have to rush to get dressed brush my teeth and throw on some blush and earrings and hope I match .
So I guess I'll be doing this again naptime routine again at 1pm. I hope this crying doesnt last long, hopefully he'll get to it by next week.

Re: Fighting his naps!
is it possible that he's only needs 2 naps a day and not more? Around 8 months, DS dropped to two naps, He wasn't tired anymore after only 2-3 hours of being awake. He was able to go much longer streches. He takes his first nap at 10 am and his second nap at 4 pm and he's in bed for the night at 8. He went trhough a rough napping phase, too and we did CIO. I really didn't think it work, but it did eventually. To get through it, we bought the FP aquarium with music and we started giving him a lovey (Mr. Bear we call him). Now when it's nap time, I bring him up to his room, shut his blinds, give him Mr. Bear and I sing him a song. I put him in his crib and he turns on his music and cuddles with his bear and he falls asleep within 10 minutes.

Re: Fighting his naps!
I'm still having the same issues. Emerson is still not napping, at least not regularly.
I have to do CIO for all her naps and bedtime every single day. She will cry for hours, and eventually pass out. It's not getting any better!
I thought she was supposed to cry less and less as time went on and I guess that's not the case here

Re: Fighting his naps!
You got great advice, I can only add that CIO for naps took waaaaaaayyy longer than CIO for bedtime/overnight wake ups with Christian. I mean it was like weeks that he fought naps and I would have to let him CIO. Now he is SO much better and goes right down (or at least plays in his crib until he is ready to sleep).
My kids cannot be awake for more than 3/3.5 hours without needing a nap. So say they get up at 5:30, I put Nicholas down at like 8:45, Christian at 9. Then depending on when they wake up, I put them down no later than 3.5 hours after that. Bed at 7pm no matter what.

Yeah, I'm only expecting him to take 2 naps. He dropped the 3rd one around 7.5 months and his bedtime got earlier. In the morning, he's still tired after only 2 hours. In the afternoon its later, like 3/4 hours. His schedule is kind of like this:
6:30 wakeup 8:30 nap 1:30 nap 6:30 bedtime
How long are your DSs all napping?
I hope this is just a phase. Dana, I'm sorry your still going through this too. This su cks . Carolyn, thank you. I guess it might take a few more weeks for me too
His afternoon nap from 12:40-1pm was in the carseat, after we got back from shopping he slept another 30 mins in the driveway

Do you think you could spend a few days at home to work on the timing of the naps that way he's not taking shorter naps in the car? I know it's hard but I had no choice but to nap Jack in the crib, otherwise they were catnaps.
Now with the two boys I make sure I do not miss nap time bc I really really need a break at that point.

Yeah, I was just thinking to do that. I should stay home tomorrow and practice this. I'm really hoping this only takes a few more days.
I dont blame you with the 2 boys! This one has to be very well trained by the time I think about the next one.
