Spinoff to personal day: Do you need to specify WHY you want to take a personal day?
Always wondered if you need to answer WHY? Thanks!
ETA: In my previous two places of employment the personal day form said
Date/Time period needed off: Reason: Date notice given: Approved:
I hated answering WHY-whether no one available to babysit dd, mani/pedi/facial/waxing, doctor's appt. My personal time is PERSONAL. I always wanted to write in reason "Going to wax the Va-jay-jay" .
I always had to come up with some excuse-usually I wrote no caretaker is available for daughter, need to stay home. I never got denied ever. I just hated having to explain myself

No. I wouldn't divulge anyway No one at work needs to know what I plan to do on my own personal time.

I don't have to specify.
I would suggest writing "Personal" for the reason. Don't feel that you have to explain either.

I write "personal" also. I don't divulgue why I need the time off. Like it should not make a difference if my reason is valid for someone else or not.

I would also mark it personal.
  Not anyone's business.

Thanks ladies. Is it LEGAL for them to prod and asky me WHY if I only specify personal. I alwasy felt it was invasive to ask WHY I need a PERSONAL day! Sort of defeats the purpose of it being person KWIM?

Yes, at my agency when taking a "personal" day, you need to give an explanation. I hate it, but I've never been denied.

It's legal to ask why you need a personal but it's also legal not to answer. I would just reiterate that it's personal or you have things you need to do that day & leave it at that.
However, anything health related falls under HIPPA. If one of my managers think someone is abusing a sick day policy, we can require a doctor's note be sent to our Privacy Officer.

Re: Spinoff to personal day: Do you need to specify WHY you want to take a personal day?
No, not necessary for me to give a reason though in the beginning I use to give a reason then thought to myself, "Why the heck am I giving a reason. She doesnt need to know" lol so I stopped...however, my boss some how finds a way in finding out why.

No never asked to give a reason. If they wanted to know I wouldnt tell them either. I'd just say I have stuff to get done.
