Do you have a kitchen withOUT a table?

Does anyone have a kitchen without a table? Do you eat at the island? Or in the dining room? is it annoying?

I've never really liked sitting on tall chairs (like barstool height), but I'm tossing around different ways to do our kitchen.. we would have a LOT more space for cabinets if we eliminate the kitchen table. Any feedback you can give me? I'm also thinking of how it would be with kids in the future (hopefully)

I have a very narrow kitchen, no island. We have to eat all meals in the dining room.

we have a galley kitchen, so the only table is in the dining room. I am totally used to it, so it's easy for us.

we eat in the dining room - kitchen is very small...

When we redid our kitchen we added cabinets, counterspace and a pantry instead of having an eat-in area. We eat at the counter (we have 4 barstools there) or in the DR which is directly off the kitchen. I didn't grow up with an eat-in kitchen either and it was never a big deal.

We could fit a table in our kitchen but then it would be cramped, so we just have the table in our dining.

When we re-do our kitchen we will open the wall to the dining to fit an island with barstool height seating

We only have a dining room table.

We could have pout a small table in the kitchen but I chose a bakers rack since we would never use the table anyway.

The previous owners of our house had a table in their kitchen and a dining room right next to it. We took a half wall out and we only eat in our dining room.

When I was little, we only ate in our dining room.

Then:




We have a big white storage cabinet on the right to hold our food now, but the table and wall are gone.

Thanks for all the replies! Those that eat in the dining room, is your DR right next to the kitchen? Our kitchen is in the front left corner of the house & the dining room is the back right corner.. so it's not ideal, but I'm sure we could make it work if needed.

If we end up going with an island w/ seating like the pic in my original post, Are barstool height chairs & children a bad combination? I'm thinking not good for small kids (post highchair age), but I have no experience yet

We eat at both the island and our DR table.

in my house as a child we only ate in the dining room the kitchen was to small and the dining room was right off the kitchen

now we have a table, but my kitchen has an empty area for it. sometimes DH and I eat in the dining room though.

For re-sale value I think its not the best idea to put those high bar height table/counters in. it looks pretty but for children in high chairs and such I don't think its pratical. its also pretty high for young children- hard to get on the the chairs and a falling hazzard off of them.

We have a long counter where we have two counter height stools.. one has the strap on high chair. The DR is right off the kitchen and not particularly formal, so we'll eat there-- or in the family room and catch up on TV while we eat.

we eat in the dining room. we could squeeze a table into the kitchen, but we wouldn't have room for the island/cart that's there now, which is great space for chopping, prep, etc.

i love that we actually use our dining room. it keeps the table from getting cluttered too.

We have a very small kitchen so we eat in the dining room or the living room at the coffee table.

We have an island in our kitchen. I would say for us it would be 50/50. Sometimes we eat in the dining room (which I prefer) and other times we eat in the kitchen at the island.

My kitchen has no table in it. It's long and narrow, but the kitchen counter comes out and wraps around in an L-shape. The kids sit at counter stools and eat their meals there. When all 4 of us eat, we sit in our dining room, right off the kitchen.

No table--eat on the couch mostly. We have a dining area where we eat if we have people over.

If we had an island or counter that would be great--I wouldn't put a table there too.

When we have company we eat at the dining room table.

My mom has a larger kitchen and has the same set up as well. I like the island, plus I feel your dining room gets use by NOT having a formal kitchen table.

This is my kitchen. While I do love it, had I been the one to remodel and design it, I probably would have done it differently , I actually miss having a table in the kitchen.

I don't particulary like eating at the island, but don't want to eat in the dining room every night.

Right now we don't have a table, and DH haaaaaates it, I think the most thing he's excited for is not eating at an island or dining room table every night but at a kitchen table in the new house, he keeps mentioning it..I grew up eating at an island so I dont see the problem with it

I hate sitting on bar stools. So we eat at the dining room every night. I like big open kitchens with no tables.


I think that pic you posted doesn't need the table, you can see the dining room table is right there. That kitchen would look great open.
