How do you wash your knives?
do you hand wash or put in the dishwasher?
I am pretty sure you are not suppose to put them in the dishwasher, but I do, and mine are all ruined. All the handles on my cuisnart knives broke. I just can't see hand washing them, especially when I use them to cut raw chicken.

Germs don't really survive on metal, it's not porous. So you don't have to worry about that.
The vibrations from the dishwasher cause microscopic "teeth" on the blade to break. These teeth are what allow the blade to be sharpened. By putting knives in the dishwasher you are, in effect, ruining them.

I handwash them. And until recently when we bought a house, I never had an apt with a dishwasher so I handwashed everything. Hot soapy water will get them just as clean.

My DH would beat me silly if I put our knives in the dishwasher! He manufacturers cutlery (among other things.) 
I wash them and then dry them immediately with a flour sack towel.

Whoops.... didn't know this.
neither did I. I guess when I get new knives Ill be handwashing them.

We put our steak knives in the dishwasher and the larger knives are washed by hand. We haven't noticed any issues for the 4 years we've been doing this.

Steak knives and butter knives go in the utensill part of the dishwasher, larger knives go on the top rack of the dishwasher laying flat.
I know I should hand wash but I don't.

Me too. We were told to not even use soap, but we do, except sometimes if it is just bread we are cutting.
I also handwash the steak knives, but put the dinner/butter knives in the dishwasher.

i had absolutely no idea you weren't supposed to wash knives!
i guess from now on i'll handwash the steak knives - i usually handwash the larger chopping knives anyway because i don't like the idea of the large blade just hanging out in the dishwasher - im scared i'll cut myself accidentally on it

Handwash and immediately dry.
I think it said so on the box they came in. We got a nice Hinkley (?) set as a wedding gift. I love them knives.
Steak knives also get handwashed but drip dry.
