If you were expecting to deliver a baby right around your first child's birthday, would you still throw a birthday party?

If you were expecting to deliver a baby right around your first child's birthday, would you still throw a birthday party?

DC#2 is due March 27. DS was born March 21 (due March 28). I'm starting to stress about if and when we should have DS's birthday party. Not sure if we should just skip a big party this year and just have an immediate family one since I'll be 39 weeks pregnant. DS was born 1 week early at 39 weeks.

WWYD?
A. Family only bday party where dates would be flexible
B. Have the party 2-3 weeks early when I'm 37-38 weeks pregnant
C. Have the party a month after the new baby is born. Then everyone can meet the new baby. (concerned about germs though)

I'd schedule a small family b-day as normal with a 'baby due rain date' two weekends after that.

My mom was due with my sister when I was 10 years old and she allowed me to have a sleepover party with 17 ten year old girls. She was nuts.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Family party. You are not going to have the energy to be a good hostess at 37 weeks pregnant, and you child is too young to care about a big party.

Speaking from experience, we had B all planned! DS birthday is September 6th & we had a party planned for August 28th (DS#2 was coming 9/7).

We ended up cancelling DS party bc our other little boy made his appearance 8 weeks early & he was home just in time for the party. We ended up doing a very small (immediate family only) party the weekend after DS first birthday

C (obviously I'm in the minority though Chat Icon)

I actually think it would be good to do something all about DC#1 after seeing so much attention on DC#2, KWIM?

I also felt MUCH more up to hosting a party a few weeks after DC#2 was born than before. It was hard to attend anything for me at that point, let alone host.

If you're worried about the germs, I'd leave the baby at home if it's at a place.

If you feel like you will be up for it, and you can get a TON of help from family, then I would do B.

I am doing option B. I will have a new baby a few weeks before my DD turns 2 and I am having her family party 6 days before my c/s date which is 3 weeks before her birthday. I know I won't feel like doing too much at that point, but I KNOW I won't be up to it after I have the baby.

A or B. I was about 34 weeks pregnant at my daughter's first bday party. It was still only family and close friends, but that's we would have had regardless (small family). It was perfect and DD had a great time. all the focus was on her and everyone got to play with her. she was the only kid there.

A - family only party

You never know if you're gonna go early or not. My mom thought she was in the clear scheduling my baby shower about 7 weeks before my due date. Well low and behold... I never made it Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: Plus I wouldn't want to deal with the details of planning a big party when I was that far along and probably exhausted from chasing my LO around.

i didn't - i was too big and was still working full time - i was exhausted my ds was only going to be 2, so he didn't know what was going on. My dd was due 10 days after his birthday. I was way too tired to do anything.

I have 3 kids.

My DS is 10/19 and my youngest daughter was due on 10/18...

I ended up having a party anyway on that weekend but I was induced the 10th which is when my youngest was born..

Any of the choices you have are good.. do what's best for you and what you feel most comfortable with.
