Mice...need help!
A couple months ago I saw 1 mouse. No droppings. We put out glue traps (didn't catch anything), had Suburban Exterminating come and give us an estimate ($800 for a year contract, and they couldn't find any entry holes to fill).
I hoped it just went away, but this morning we saw that mice had eaten a lot off of our kitchen counter.
I bought glue traps and snap traps. Any other recommendations? I don't think an exterminating company would do anything else since all they said they could do was put out traps.
Do those noise things you plug in work? It is so disgusting since we have a baby who is always on the floor.

800 a year for mouse control is ROBBERY!!!I used to work for Parkway Exterminating and I highly recc. them. They have great inspectors who are trained to find and plug the holes.
However, you are right, unless you have a serious problem try to solve it on your own. Here is what I recc. you do. Get SNAP traps and place a light smear of peanut butter on them. Make sure you place the traps flushed against your wall, this is because mice travel alongside the wall to help find their way. The trick is don't set the trap, leave it unset for a few days. The mice will get use to feeding off of it. Then after a few days, set the trap. They will then go to it, since they have learned to eat off of it, and then will be caught.
Remember, mice can squeeze through anything as small as a dime in diameter. This is the season. They are getting in from somewhere. If you catch more than 5 in a week, you should seek professional help.

I highly recommend Sam at Gotcha Pest Control. You can call him at (718) 456-5601 . He's based in Queens but comes out to Long Island too.
He does a whole house inspection, literally getting down on his hands and knees, moves appliances (and cleans up behind there!) and looks at every little crevice, from the basement to the attic.
Not only that, but he doesn't try to upsell you on a year long contract. You pay a very reasonable one-time price and then he guarantees his work! So after he comes, if you have any issues, you just call him up and he comes out for free.

in my old apt we saw one tiny little mouse and we had an electric trap... you put pb on it and it walks in to get it and then it gets electrocuted...
the light on the outside goes from green to red when something is in it... you just empty the trap into the garbage... very clean and easy compared to glue traps and snap traps! And you dont hear anything either

Glue traps work best, wherever you see the droppings. Place glue traps where baby can't reach, under stove, behind fridge, couch, etc.
We caught one in a glue trap last night. It was sad; he was still alive and managed to get across the room while on the trap.  DH had to kill him. Hopefully 1 down, no others left.
Thanks for all of the advice! Money's tight, so I hope I don't have to go the professional route.

If you have to lay any type of trap, put them against the wall. Mice and rats don't see so well and often use the walls to guide themselves around. Also, with snap traps, put the snap end against the wall. If you find the mice are taking the bait, but the traps aren't snapping, then leave the traps out, baited, but not loaded for snapping for a few days. Then bait them and have them loaded to snap.

I had a mouse problem in the past and am VERY against the glue traps, I just think they are cruel, for the very reason that you described about what happened to the mouse you caught. Please consider getting the snap traps instead, they're somehow a little less horrible.

We have this kind of trap too and there's no other way to go. We catch 1-2 each fall. DH gets the honor of dumping the 'special guest'. It's nice, b/c it's a little more humane than the glue or snap traps. I've heard too many horrible stories about those.
