Town Help
My friend's husband was offered a job at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
She is from Brooklyn and doesn't know LI at all. She asked me to help her find some towns for them to look for a house within 20 minutes of her husband's new job.
Requirements are good school district, large Jewish population and preferably walking distance to temple.
So far I recommended Dix Hills Commack and Smithtown. Also recommended Merrick and Bellmore but I think its too far west.
What other towns should I recommend to her?

I would also check out Kings Park, great school district, great small town, and a decent, albeit, not huge, Jewish population.

Thank you. Yea I think they are looking for a large Jewish population. I appreciate your help though

While Bay Shore is not predominantly Jewish, there is a temple in the town.

Massapequa/Massapequa Park (with Massapequa or Plainedge schools). It's over the Nassau border, but would take about 20 minutes to get to Bayshore.

Plainview, good schools and mostly Jewish population, google maps said 29 minutes (mostly parkways)

Plainview and since he would be traveling the opposite direction of traffic it shouldn't take him more then 20-30 mins depending on where they are. but Plainview is pretty center of the island and there is a large jewish community there. homes aren't cheap though, so check their budget

When I was looking for a home, I was told by (not Jewish) friends that live in Sayville that there is a nice Jewish population there, but I never ended up looking there so I can't speak to its population personally.
I teach at a very large Nassau high school and of my 120 students, one of them is half-Jewish. I didn't want my future children to grow up to feel so "different." So I think I know how your friend feels. Plainview is a great option but very expensive, and the South Shore towns - the Massapequas, Wantagh, Bellmore - are also good options (and what we went with). A good friend of mine was a doc at Southside Hospital for a while he and lives in Bellmore. His commute was against traffic, he had 4 routes he could take (So. State, Sunrise Hwy, Montauk Hwy, Ocean Pkwy), and the drive was about 40 minutes I think.

A good friend of my DH works at Southside - he lives in East islip. It's very close to the hospital. He's Jewish but I'm not sure if he is practicing or not.

The closest town you're going to get is Dix Hills or Commack.
Other predominanately Jewish Towns are Plainview/Old Bethpage, Merrick, any of the 5 towns, Great Neck and Manhasset.

Syosset/Woodbury or Jericho may be a good option, against traffic it may take about 30 minutes.

Great school districts but Plainedge and Massapequa have a very small jewish population.
