How loud is your noise machine?
I honestly think the louder it is, the better he sleeps, but I don't want to do damage, so right now I'm looking at the summer video monitor and its 3 green dots for volume, the next 2 are red and those aren't lit, am I ok?
WDYT?
Um the fire truck passing through, with its alarm every 30 minutes makes both the red lights light up. 
It just woke poor DS up.

We put it as loud as it goes. It blocks out outside noise.

I dont put mine on very loud. Its just loud enough to create some background noise really.

Ours is pretty loud. Not the loudest it goes but it is up there....I do think about long term effects...recently turned them down slightly but still loud.
