The property tax in Nassau is off the charts.
SO yes, I agree 100% that the unions should get cut. One thing to start with is the overuse of over time. I wonder if that was cut how much money would be saved.
Just as an FYI, most union employees are being denied OT, and have been for a LONG time, in an effort to cut costs.

I am not a Nassau County resident or worker, but my husband is a Suffolk County worker and we dealt with Levy and his 'wonderful' lag pay last year and more empty threats again this year.
Anyway, it would be easy to say yes, cut the spending $60 million saves a lot and we all had to take pay cuts. But, look at your tax bill. I know here in Suffolk County, my general county taxes are $60.00 a year. It's less than 1% of my tax bill.
But if my county taxes doubled, would it really make a difference in my pocket? Yet, my school taxes which equate for over 70% of my tax bill go up every single year.
So what would hurt this economy more - an extra $60 bucks out of my pocket or an average of $7500 coming from the average county worker?
I just think it is so easy for people to say, cut, cut, cut when are you really looking at how it will affect you.

something needs to be done. The taxes in Nassau are unrealistic - especially compared to the quality of the homes and living compared to the rest of the country. Its a shame it will effect peoples salary's though. It would be better if there was a nother way to save the money. but something significant needs to be done.
