weird question re mounting TV's....
I feel so silly asking this... if you mount your TV over a fireplace, can you still use your fireplace, or will the TV like melt or something?
I'm seriously LOL-ing as I type this. It sounds so ridiculous, but I really am concerned about it!

it voids the TV's warranty if you do this
it probably won't melt it but if there is a lot of heat that comes off it, that isn't good for a tv
best way to tell- put a fire on, burn it for a while and feel the bricks. if they are hot to touch, don't mount it there, or don't use the fireplace
if you have a gas fireplace, you should be ok but again, I would test it before putting the tv there
the bigger issue for me is height. TVs should be eye level or just a little bit above. sometimes its way to high and you have to sit very far back to see the tv

exactly! we're closing in a couple of weeks and he's always been dead set on TV over the fireplace, and it dawned on me the other day... how the heck does that even work!
I mean i know people do it somehow but maybe they just don't use their FP's or don't have woodburning FP's?

Thats exactly why we're discussing it..and if we don't put it over the FP the only other wall is an awkward layout to be put on....so I have no clue I was going to actually hire tv installers and see what they say...

yeah we don't really have anywhere else to put it without having a window behind where the couch would be which would probably create a glare problem... totally know how u feel.

so is ours, and it's right next to the sliding glass doors and the furthest wall in the den...it's just really the only place it can go

we just had a huge conversation about this, and many google searches later, i think i have him convinced that it needs to go on the only other wall... although it will mean a smaller tv bc it's a shorter distance, but...

They make mounts that can move the TV to flip up (towards the ceiling) or to move it away from the fireplace...both of those would be an option for you...they're just expensive.
My home theatre guy does them if you want his info...

see I've seen these, my concern is the wiring in the back, how do you run wiring behind the brick, basically in the chimney
