And so the MONEY PIT opens...
Yup, contractor job #1 for Casa Goldi.
Plumbing issue. Hot water wont turn off in bathroom. DH and I take piggy back showers and then he runs downstairs to the basement to shut the water off. There is a problem between the tub and the shower head. We need to demo a wall, fix it and tile it back up. Its gonna look worse than the 1952 bathroom it is now but we simply cannot afford to do our whole bathroom over while I am on leave not drawing an income.
JOY.
Its rare to ask for prayers on the home board, but can we all hold hands and pray that this job is finished in one day? Im still recovering from a difficult c-section incision and we only have one working bathing area until we put a stall shower in the basement.

The vavle is probably just shot.......not that big of a deal and you should only have to pop off a few tiles if that and they can be reused

yep i had to replace a few valves when doing the toilet and vanity switch out. I know the feeling about the money pit. Hope by the end of the day all goes well.

Good luck. My sister just bought a house and the shower is leaking in the wall behind the bathtub. They're gonna have to do something similar since they can't afford a new bathroom right now either.

If anything, can you just sheetrock it back up an paint for now, to match your 50's bath...we may have a problem like that in one of the bathrooms in the house we're buying and we're basically doing the entire first floor before we move in and the 2nd floor next year. This bath happens to be the largest of the house and will be the most money so if we do have a problem that's our plan

Looks like the job is going to take 2 days. We need a contractor to break the wall and a plumber to do the work. Then the contractor has to come back to do the tiles. We have American Home Shield, but it doesn't cover the demo and re-tile, just the plumbing.
Someone tell me how long it takes to completely redo a bathroom if you arent doing anything UBER FUNKY. I can't deal.

We just also had to repair a leak in the master bath causing us to cut a hole in the ceiling, and gut the master shower-- I just moved back into our bathroom yesterday-- it's life's simple pleasures!
If it makes you feel better, it seems to happen to us all.

The plumbing issues are pretty extensive. There is a big leak in the basement as a result. We will be putting up cheap white tile - matching tiles from 60 years ago would be stupid. We will be redoing the bathroom in the spring if all goes well.
On a side note, Abby took a look at the demo'd wall and said "EW YUCKY!!!!"

Plumber got here at 7 last night on Yom Kippur (yeah yeah we know, no lectures please and I ain't fasting either - SUE ME). They left at close to 9 pm. The contractor is here right now putting the wall back together. I should have it in usable condition by tomorrow.
