At a home or out at a restaurant.
Either! But the implication is that someone other than your or your DH/SO is present.

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
at home, if I was desperate to eat, probably
anywhere else, to me it feels like bad manners, I wouldn't do it, but at the same time would not frown on a mommy breastfeeding at any time any place.

Doesn't bother me.
When they get older, they tend to whip around to look around & don't release..owww.
And speaking from experience, watch out if you're eating pancakes. Syrup is difficuit to get out of their hair.

Yes, and I have done it. I used my cover, its not like I whipped out my boobs for everyone to see. Most people probably didn't even realize what I was doing.

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
I wouldn't bother me, I am very pro breastfeeding and think that it should be done whenever and wherever your baby needs to eat. That being said I think the mother needs to use some discretion when doing it. She should try to cover up as much as possible when in public. There is always a discreet way to do it, you don't need to whip the whole boob out so that the whole table can see your stuff.

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
I figure...if it is okay to bottle feed at the dinner table, then why not breastfeed?? I don't see what the problem is when your baby is hungry he needs to eat. I personally always use a nursing cover when other people are around though.

ITA... the last time I remember BFing out to eat we were with MIL and DH grandmother at a restaurant in City Island. When you use a cover and don't make a big deal of it, nobody really notices!

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
For me, it's simple. Put on a nursing cover, feed your baby and yourself. Baby's gotta eat. And so do I. I'm not going to leave my hot dinner at a restaurant to go somewhere else to BF and then come back to eat.
However, there have been a few times at home or at my parents/ILs when I've let everyone else eat first and then have eaten myself after BFing DS only because it can be hard to eat and BF sometimes since I sometimes need both hands to eat (using a knife or whatever).

Agreed! I've BF at the dinner table both at home and while out. It is what it is...I really don't care if anyone has anything to say! My kid has to eat. Plus it is a good way to keep him quiet while I am trying to shovel food into my mouth!

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
Doesn't bother me with discretion in public.
I personally never did/wasn't able to be discrete with children who constantly think my nursing wrap is over their head for a game of peekaboo
When Colin was a NB, I nursed at the table all the time - only way I could join DH & Ryan for a meal

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
I voted if using discretion. I've BF in public at a restaurant but always covered up. But I'm always covered up if BFing in public. Most people don't even know what your doing.
At home, I usually feed DS first and than will eat- just easier that way so I have my hands.

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
Yes its fine and yes I have done it several times - even on front of the deacon at DS's christening - but I wore a cover up and while he knew what was going on under there he could not see anything and he didn't bat an eyelid.
Baby has to eat too. The End.

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
personally i say no at the dinner table. i wouldnt do it at the dinner table. when in BF my girls i wanted to be comfortable and dont really see me sitting at the dinner table being a comfy option for me.
for me it was all about comfort and i liked to relax in my favorite chair at home and BF. When we were out at a restaurant usually i would feed her in the car before we went in. also a comfort thing since we have the captain chairs and all.

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
I couldn't even BF in front of my own mother at home, so for me, I wouldn't do it at the dinner table.
I wouldn't mind if others did it because if I'm having dinner with you, I'm related to you or am friends with you. But discretion please....I don't want to see anyone's areolas!

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
Sure, I have no problem with it. I have done it at many family get togethers. I'm not going to miss dinner just because DS has to eat!
I have also done it while out with friends, my friends know me and know what to expect of me, it isn't an issue

Re: Breastfeeding at the dinner table
I don't have a problem at home or out. If I am at home though...I will excuse myself and feed her on the couch or in her room. Not because i think its rude or whatever...but I want to be comfortable. DD now eats table food but in the past...I have had to whip out my boob at a restaurant. I did not use a cover because DD hates it....but I had layers and was discrete and you couldn't see anything.

Nay -
Inappropriate at the table with others IMO -
If you're home w/ your DH that's different, but with a lot of people? No
