Poll - Your Kitchen
Bored & curious..
Is your kitchen in the front or back of the house?
Like it that way, or would you have preferred other way?
ETA: I messed up 4th choice.. should be "prefer in front"

Any house I've ever lived in, the kitchen was in the back. I have it that way now. Like it this way.
Having never lived in a house where the kitchen is on the front, I find that setup odd.

Mine is in the front. I have a townhouse in FL. In every townhome I have been in and lived in in NY the kitchen was always in the back of the house so it did take some getting used to.
When you open my front door you can see my kitchen to the right through a cut out in the wall.
I love my house and the layout because it is unique. It's not like a typical townhome that feels like a long box. Our floorplan doesn't have that feeling so that I like.
I will say that if I had no budget and could afford ANY house the kitchen would probably be further back in the house, or maybe in the middle. I like when the kitchen has access to a deck or yard and mine does not. I also like when a kitchen is open to the family room and mine is not. A lot of the things my dream kitchen would have were realistically out of our price point and for what we could afford we could the best house for us.
So short answer is I like my kitchen in the front in *this* house because of the home's layout even though I prefer a kitchen in the back or in the middle of a home in general.

Our kitchen is in the back and I like it there. At my inlaws, it was in the back then they added to the back of their house so it's not in the middle just off the living room in the front of the house. At my parents it was in the front but it was a co-op and the bedrooms were in the back, away from the front door. At my parents beach house and my aunt and uncles beach house they're both in the back.
ETS: I like it in the back because it makes it so much easier when you're eating outside.

I voted other. It's kind of in the front but kind of in the middle. The Front of the house is my dining room that you walk pass to get to kitchen...

my lindenhurst home had the kitchen in the back with the window that looked into the backyard. my kids could go out and play and i could still keep an eye on them. AND, it made me LOVE to maintain my backyard.
now, in wantagh, i look at what's going on in the neighborhood. and other's homes. which is why on another post i had a fit about other people taking care of their front yards... i have to look at them now.

My kitchen is in front, and I like that it is the natural gathering place when people come over to visit. It makes the kitchen feel so "homey" to me.

Ours is in the back of the house, with a big window looking into our backyard over our sink. Perfect for watching chlidren (around 6 or 7) while making dinner or doing dishes.

I honestly don't give it a second thought
my house growing up had the kitchen in the front when you walked in - my home now has the kitchen towards the back
either way is fine by me!

Mine is in the back. I love where it's located in the house bc I can see every other room from it, including the backyard and that is my favorite part. I like looking out the window into the yard (it's also an open floor plan)

The house I grew up in was a split level in Commack and had the kitchen in the front. My house now has a kitchen in the back and the house we owned in NY also had a kitchen in the back. I think its cool to have in teh back since its closer for outside parties and such but really don't see a huge advantage otherwise

Mine's in the back and when we were house hunting a kitchen in the front of the house was a deal breaker for me. I like access to the yard from the kitchen.

I live in an apartment with a open floor plan so I can see the kitchen as soon as you come in. When we have a house I dont want to be able to see the kitchen from the front door, that is my only requirement regarding the position.

It is in the middle of the house. Originally it was in the back but the previous owners added an extension so now it's in the middle.

My kitchen is in the front of the house with a door on the side of my house leading to my backyard.
We don't have an exit directly into my backyard but the door does lead to my side yard where my patio is and we spend most of our time.
Our backyard is where our shed and horseshoe pit is...out of sight, out of mind.
My next house MUST have a door from the kitchen leading to the yard - as my current house does.

My kitchen is towards the back of the house, but could also be considered in the middle because there is a room after the kitchen that you can then go to the back.
The kitchen was originally in the front of the house, but it was tiny, so we moved it to where it is now and made the original kitchen a bedroom

my kitchen's in the back. i like having quick access to the backyard from the kitchen when i'm bbqing/entertaining. i'm also partial to houses where the front door opens to the living room--just my thing, but we did prefer it when we were looking.

I'm an other-Its the second room on the right. The windows face the side.
My parents have theirs in the front & I am used to it.
My mom says she would prefer it in the back, so she wouldn't worry about people seeing it dirty, but I know she would never leave it dirty anyway!
