What to expect at my first MD appt
I called my doctor's office today to schedule my first appt on September 27! I'm so excited but I don't know how I am going to wait that long! I will be just over 7 wks.
What can I expect at my first appointment? When I called, the receptionist said bloodwork, an internal exam and maybe an internal sono, but she didn't sound too sure. (I go to Great Neck OB/GYN if this makes a difference.) Do I get to hear a HB?
Thanks in advance!

Re: What to expect at my first MD appt
At my first appointmnet I was only about 4 weeks and all they did was a pap and a breast exam and took some blood to check my betas. The next appointment at 8w3d I had an internal sono where we heard and saw the heartbeat and they took about 10 viles of blood.

Thanks Gail! I just had a pap in early July - do you think I'll need another one?
My MD wouldn't let me come in until 7-8 weeks.

First appointment was a Pap & Internal Sono.. If you had a Pap done in July I doubt they would do it again. I was also sent to Sunrise Lab for bloodwork.

I was very early at my first appt...almost 5w....the dr. drew blood to confirm the pregnancy and the following week I went for an internal sono.

Re: What to expect at my first MD appt
I wasn't allowed to go in until I was 8 weeks. They did the regular doc stuff -- urine sample, weight, blood pressure, and then did an internal sono, took about 6 vials of blood, and did my yearly pap since I was due in July (this was in May). They gave us an E.D.D. since my periods were super irregular and there was no other way to tell (based on my LMP, I would've been 12 weeks!! But I knew I was closer to 8 because of a negative test halfway through that cycle in March).
The sono was amazing. We saw the baby and the yolk sac and the heartbeat and they turned on the sound and we heard the heartbeat. My EDD is based on the measurement of the baby that first appointment (and it has been confirmed twice since as she's developing exactly according to that date since then). There's a pic in my album if you want to see.
Nick should definitely go with you if he can!!! It's so freakin amazing to see the baby for the first time! Then you guys can go over to Yogurteria or something for lunch after... yum. Or Wild Ginger... or Ginos... oh, I miss Gino's pizza. My mom always liked Ellio's but I loved Gino's -- their salads are great too.
Sorry I'm getting nostalgic for GN food... Is GN OBGYN over on Bond? That's where my orthodontist was.
Sorry for all the tangents. I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The office is on Northern Blvd. ... right past the Starbucks over there.
He feels funny about going but I told him I wanted him to go and he said OK. I don't think he was expecting to come to the first appt! He's slowly getting a handle on most of these things ... me, I've been lurking on TTC/Pregnancy for like a year so I'm ahead of the curve a bit!
Thanks everyone for your help!

Def have him go because you will most likely get a sono and get to see the baby!

I grew up *really* close to there! Like almost walking distance. I could walk to the bagel place -- Bagel Man -- and often did.
DH only comes to appointments with sonos but it's very worth it. He should definitely go with you to the first one. Plus he probably won't have to sit through a pap since you just had one... that was quite an experience, having an audience for a pap lol.
