Re: feta???

safe!!! enjoy it Chat Icon

the only way it would be unsafe is if it was made with unpasterurized milk, which is not legal in the US. There is no way of getting unpasteurized milk unless ur drinking it straight from the cow.

Re: feta???

I had feta today on a salad. I have had it several times. Most feta is pasteurized. I would go for it Chat Icon

Re: feta???

I've heard no unless it's heated. I don't eat feta so I haven't had it personally. When in doubt don't have it unless your dr or reliable sources tell you otherwise. JMO!

Re: feta???

Go for it!!!

The only cheeses you should stay away from are those that are not pasteurized and 99% of cheeses sold in the US are safe!

Re: feta???

I know a lot of people on here say yes but I just had a chicken gyro for dinner and I would say be careful! If the place is clean and they refrigerate it then go for it. My worry isn't the milk its if it has been out for a while. Most Greek rest. keep the feta out all day. If you got the feta from the store and put it on I would say absolutely.

Re: feta???

I was told to ask if it's pasteurized. Apparently where I live in NC all cheese served in restaurants is required to be pasteurized. I imagine most is in NY, but you can always ask to be sure.

My favorite cheeses are "raw" cheeses I get from whole foods so I've had to do without for a while now.

Re: feta???

Yes as long as it is pasteurized, but I am going to tell you what my Greek BFF said. The whole population of pregnant Greek women constantly eat unpasteurized Feta throughout their pregnancy and their babies turn out ok. Even though I do not eat unpasteurized cheese during pregnancy, thinking of that reminds me not to freak ou if I have a taste.
