Good towns on LI but not crazy expensive!
Been doing research and I just seem to go around and around in circles!!!
We are in nassau now...I am very familar with nassau county BUT less with suffox.
We LOVE where we are but our TAXES are INSANE
Been researching....but like I said very confused.
Most imp is SAFETY and SCHOOL...But not looking for a 800K house!!!!
400 range this time!

i love the whole string of towns between bay shore and blue point on the south shore:
islip
east islip/great river
oakdale
sayville
bayport/blue point
school districts and neighborhoods are all good to great.

Sayville tops my list (I'm biased!)
I also love Bay Shore (especially West Bay Shore - south of Union/west of Southward Ho)
Bayport and Bluepoint are cute too.
Each of these gets very expensive as you go near the water. With the exception of West Sayville - the houses on West and Atlantic are surprisingly reasonable despite the proximity to the GSB.

If you want to consider Suffolk, the taxes are MUCH less and you get more property. Overall you get more for your money in Suffolk.
I live in Lake Grove and it's beautiful.....great village/town. If you want closer to the train I would suggest Ronkonkoma which is nice as well.

Im in Holbrook... good area... good schools (big SD district though - Sachem)... right in between LIE and Sunrise... closest RR is Ronkonkoma, like 5-10 mins away

what about bethpage? it's a nice town I think the tax is a little bit better depending on the house too

I LOVE HOlbrook. Exactly what I am looking for...the only thing is it is a little far I think...But its not out of the question. see...My parents are in Queens and my sis in Seaford.
But I do love it there...and I am trying to decide

There are tons of great towns on LI. Personally, I think you should try to narrow down your search area a little more. It seems like you are searching all of LI. Just a thought.

E. Northport and Kings Park both have reasonably prices houses, reasonable taxes, and schools with a great reputation.

Yea sounds like I am ...but i am not....lol..I will be more specific....looking for nassau county, or not too far out in Suffox...
(with expception of Holbrook bc I happen to love that town)
I am in Lynbrook now and love it here but taxes are high...looking to get a little more for less money.

Northport is a great area and low taxes since LIPA is there, but if you are in the village - there are village taxes. There is a wide arrange of houses from 300K-2+ million

I live in Glen Head which is a great town and great schools (North Shore school district). We also have a LIPA plant which I believe helps with taxes.
Its on the north shore of Nassau County.

I'm in farmingdale......east side though so we are Suffolk so our taxes are less but we are in farmingdale SD.
Grew up in northport and the taxes are cheap but you won't find much for 400k

All of these towns are very safe and have good schools. Houses vary from 300k and up with most being in the 400k range.

Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa, Massapequa Park - all nice middle-class towns with good schools, and all on the Babylon train line, which is generally excellent.
