Please recommend your breast bump..and a few questions.

Please tell me what kind of breast pump you use and why you like it (if you don't mind).

Can you use regular bottles with any breast pump?

I am not sure if BFing is for me so I don't want to buy a pump yet. I also have Dr. Browns bottles here and I don't know if I should return them.

Thanks

Re: Please recommend your breast bump..and a few questions.

Right now I am using the Ameda Purely Yours double electric pump.
Its working great, my only complaint is the silicone diaphram constantly gets wet, and the pump loses suction. I have to take it apart, dry it, put it back together. Chat Icon
I am not breastfeeding, I am pumping only, and this pump is doing the job.

1st time around I used an Avent pump. I loved it but it was just a single pump.

That's weird. I have 2 Amedas and that NEVER happened to me, and I EP'd for almost 2 months then she finally latched and I only pumped at work, so mine also got heavy use. I wonder if the recent heat and humidity is causing it? Are you refrigerating the parts in between uses?

I had a valve rip once when cleaning, made sure to keep extras on hand after that LOL

I love it though, I plan to use it again.

Re: Please recommend your breast bump..and a few questions.

With my first 2 DC I used the Pump in Style Advanced. I generally BF but pumped to give bottles every so often at first, then to build a freezer stash.

The PIS Advanced worked great- but it really is cumbersome. The hands-free bras I purchased to use at work did NOT work and actually made the pumping process longer for me.

For this baby I got the new Medela Freestyle pump and LOVE it!!!! It's so portable and the hands free option really works well. I'll be working full-time this year once maternity leave is done, so I wanted a really good pump that I could use handsfree.

As for your questions.....

I have always used the Medela collection bottles that came with the pump, but poured the milk into Lansinoh bags for storage.

I used Br. Browns bottles in 2007 after having DD#1 and while they seem great, I HATED them. Too many parts to clean and they almost always leaked if they were screwed on too tight. We wound up switching to Playtex Drop-ins when she was 2 months old.

Everything I read said the pump in style is the best bet...but it's realy expensive. so I put it on my registry so we'll see!

It gets wet from the milk, it squirts up there somehow.

Re: Please recommend your breast bump..and a few questions.

Julz, that is so weird. Have you contacted Ameda? Maybe try a lower suction/speed setting once you let down?

I forgot to answer before but you can use most standard sized bottles on the Ameda, but not wide necks. Playtex also sells an adapter ring you can use to pump directly into Drop Ins liners.

We used the Playtex drop in system and also had some of the evenflo cheapie bottles
