Postpartum Preeclampsia
Just wanted to make you all aware that preeclampsia CAN happen after birth and to still watch out for signs. If you think something isnt right speak up.
I had c/s Monday 6/7 & left hospital Friday 6/11.
I had very extreme swelling in my legs and feet while at the hospital.
When I got home it got even worse and EVERYTHING from the waste down was swollen & painful. I googled it and even spoke about it here -where it was said it was norm to have swelling up to 6 weeks after.
I actually gained weight after delivery.
That following Monday my mom made me call the dr she knew this wasnt normal swelling. (im not much of a complainer when it comes to my health) Called the office & spoke to the nurse who said it was normal and to take natural diuretics & call back tues if it didnt get better. i did what she said & had to call back tues bc it had gotten worse. I made an apt for wed.
Wed dr apt my blood pressure was high and the dr looked at my swelling & sent me straight to the emergency room where I had to spend the next 2 days. I was given high doses of diuretics, antibiotics and blood pressure medicine. They told me I had postpartum preeclampsia. I had a private room so my baby, Ava, could come visit me. I also ended up getting Cellulitis infection in the bikini area under the c/s insistion ( not a nice place to have this-in a very private area  )
On my discharge papers from 1st stay my bp was higher than normal and I found out that my bp went up even higher while there. I also woke up with a light in my eye. another sign.
So now I am seeing a kidney specialist and following up with my ob. I also have to go see a eye dr to make sure theres no hypertension in my eye vision.
Thanks for taking time to read. Its great to be home with my baby (even if she does keep me up all night  )

Wow that is really crazy. What hospital did you deliver at??? i hope you feel better soon.

I had the same thing after I had DS. I ended up staying in the hospital 5 days and left with 2 prescription meds for the bp. I needed them till I was about 6 weeks PP.

Oh, Laura, I'm so sorry you are going through all this! Thank you so much for posting about it -- kinowledge is power and it's so helpful to the rest of us.
