Its official: WE ARE HOMEOWNERS!!!
We closed today on our first (and hopefully last) house today. I won't BS anyone, but the process sucked arse. Truly did.
We were ideal buyers. We had excellent credit, ZERO debt, had nothing to sell, steadily employed with additional income and our lender put us through the ringer. We provided papers upon papers. Being that our down payment came as a result of the sale of my family home a well as distributions from an existing family business, I had to prove at least 3 different ways that I was entitled to the money. Cancelled checks from Mom's estate wasn't enough. I had to provide a copy of her will too as well as her death certificate.
With Dad's business, I had to provide cancelled checks, tax returns from the business and HIS death certificate. I had to provide my marriage license to prove I was who I was because my father passed before I was married and there was a name change involved.
Our lender seemed to be disorganized and I plan on expressing my displeasure with them after we are settled and moved in.
We were also dealing with a very difficult situation. The sellers are in the midst of a nasty divorce and therefore were not in the closing room together. Their attorney was going back and forth between the two rooms which prolonged things slightly. The divorce also made our access to the home EXTREMELY difficult. We had a walk through on Saturday, but will effectively have to have a second one once they vacate - they still have children in school and are paying taxes, etc until school is over. We take posession on the 28th.
Our agent is an extremely hard working and incredible agent who went above and beyond for us. If anyone needs a recommendation, feel free to FM me.
Finally, this day was extremely emotional and bittersweet. We could not have done this without the sale of my family home and distributions from my father's business from which we (my siblings and I) continue to draw income. HOWEVER, nothing would have brought more joy to my parents than to see us and our children in a house. Their presence was felt in so many ways. We wish they could have been with us to see this day.
I dont have too many pictures but here is one: The roof and siding will be completely replaced before Zippy comes!:

That will be the true test. It's unsettling, but its the best we could do. I will be there at the designated vacating time with a locksmith (and a cop if I need one  )

Seriously? I dont know why anyone WOULDN'T change the locks ASAP.

I changed every freakin lock that DAY as well! You can't trust anyone! I am so happy for you and Ed!
