Nanny salaries

I was looking on sittercity.com and care.com, and it seems that most nannies and babysitters are seeking $10-$20 per hour. Is this normal?

Anyone willing to share what they pay their nannies?

WOW....then my sister is being ripped off. She watches children of a school teacher and those are her hours as well, Monday through Friday. She watches a two year old all day, the four year old gets dropped off at school at 12pm and then she gets the 4 year old and 6 year old off the bus at 3pm. She only gets paid $300.00

Wow...I would have loved to work with you. When I was a F/T nanny, watching 3 kids, ages newborn-7 years old, I only got paid 400 dollars a week. And it was only 2 years ago....I charge 10 dollars an hour for one kid and 2 dollars per extra child...

Our nanny works 3 days/week (7:30-4:30) and we pay her $350/week.

I think it really depends on the nanny and their past experience and salary and how many kids they've watched.

I pay mine $525 a week for 2 kids f/t. She gets 5 sick days and a severance if we need to terminate the arrangement on our end as long as she meets basic standards (shows up on time and takes care of the kids). She used to make a lot less to watch a lot more kids. I also reimburse any expenses if she every wanted to do crafts or anything. If I ever hire a nanny again, regardless of where they come from there will be a 90 day grace period at a lower rate, I'll offer a raise at that point but then I can determine whether it's a good fit w/o the stress of letting someone go b/c of poor performance. My plan for the future would be hire 2 p/t college students. Otherwise we'll use p/t daycare.

ETA: I think the hourly wage on that site is a little inaccurate for my situation. I was paying $580 for daycare, but the kids were in an educational environment, no TV, I didn't have to buy food (other than baby food, but then they provided table food) all the toys, outside playground, and there was "back up" so if a teacher was sick I didn't have to take the day off. To me, if a daycare teacher can make $9-12 an hour to watch 4 kids (assuming ratio of 1:4 kids) I don't see an issue with $13/14 for 2. JMO, I know others may not agree.

I pay my sister $350 a week + transportation (metrocard) + food (keep a stocked fridge).

She works from 8:45 AM to 6:30 PM Monday - Thursday and 9 AM - 5 PM on Friday. If we get home early, we let her leave early.

According to the site above, I should be paying her about $700! Wow!

We have a live-in and pay $525 a week. That's for 2 kids and she does some cleaning. We don't pay hourly t hough - just weekly. However, she has alot of downtime where I don't care if she sits around and watches tv, plus we give her a cell phone that we pay for and occasionally pay for her transportation. She also gets paid for the times we take vacation, and if she has a drs appt, we still pay her.

I think the rate for a nanny and the rate for an occasional baby-sitter is different.

When I was in college I was a nanny for 2 boys (one was 3, one was an infant) 4 - 10hr days a week and got paid $350.

I am a nanny for three kids and get 450 a week. One kid, all day long and I put the other two on the bus and take them off and do homework with them. I do laundry for them and dishes and make sure their rooms are cleaned

My friends who have full time nannies pay approx. $25k to $35k/year.

Dumb question, do any of the nanny services offer light house cleaning as well? Im still going back and forth between day care and nanny ONLY from a price perspective but might be able to justify a nanny if she does light house cleaning during nap time. Im still up in the air.

I met a nanny in the City who works 40+ hours. She has paid benefits (medical included) and an appartment paid for by the parents.

She makes $1800/week. She takes care of 4 kids. Including all extra school activities.



This is what I found out to be fairly consistent for LI

Babysitters (occasional) : $10-$15 depending on experience

Nanny:
- In your home: About $500-$600/week. Hamptons area: about $700 per week up to $800

- At their house: $250-$300 (about $40-$60 per day)


That's approximately for 40 hours. If you need more you will be on the higher range I gave you. And for 1 kid.

For 2 kids, you usually cut the second rate in half or about.

I was a live in nanny 12 years ago and I was paid $400 a week.

I had weekends off, ate all my food at their house, they were 2 school aged children so I had my days free when they were in school and they paid for my health insurance.

It is up to you regarding light housekeeping. Our nanny doesn't have to do it. If the dishwasher needs to be taken care of she will- she puts away all of the boys laundry. She tidies up the toys. If we are having company she will make the place look nice.

She is so great with the boys it is such a pleasure to know the boys are in good hands when mommy is working.
