WWYD--regarding 1st B-day party

My DD's 1st birthday is in July

My mom wants to have a b-day party for her at her house for DD with her friends and family friends...and for family that is local

Originally we wanted to have a 1st b-day party for DD in our backyard, because DH worked on it a lot (new sod, built a patio, etc)...but its not a big backyard so not THAT many people could come

I'm not sure what to do....and our friends don't really have any kids, but my DD has "friends" from a play/mom's group I joined but only a month ago

And it seems odd to have 2 parties...but I feel like my mom will be offended if I say no to her party Chat Icon

And I should invite my in-laws right? (Even if they're out of town and I can't stand them? Chat Icon )

Thanks for ANY advice, I LOVE planning parties but HATE deciding who's supposed to be there Chat Icon

I vote for 2 parties and have your In-laws invited to the one at your parent's house. That way there will be more people there who are their contemporaries. The party at your house can be a friends party. However, if you invite your parents to your friends party I feel like you need to invite your in-laws too.

I feel the exact same way! I plan on having 2 1st birthday parties.
