We finally setup our rain barrel!! [Pics]
I bought the rain barrel last year but we didn't get around to setting it up by the end of the season. Since it's in a place viewable from the patio, DH wanted it to be pretty. And pretty doesn't come cheap! You could save $100 or more if you bought other kinds or even built your own. We got this from Gardeners.com for $219.00. Yea, I know. But we have the money and it's exactly what we want.
It holds 65 gallons of water, has a spigot that I attached a soaker hose to, an additional hose that I can use to fill up watering cans, an overflow valve at the top that we're going to run a hose from to the front of the house, and a little reservoir at the top that I can put some kind of decorative item in or a potted plant.
So here they are, the pics...
Before
After I cut the gutter and refastened it to the house, leveled the ground, built and leveled a two layer brick base, put together everything:
I plan to put a large potted plant in front of that huge ugly pipe to hide it. I also have to bury the soaker hose under the pine needle mulch too.
I bought some more Heuchera to fill some gaps in that shade bed there, among all the ferns I planted last year.
The pink is Heuchera Georgia Peach and the purple is... I forget. I'll update the name if anyone likes it, but there's a ton of purples out there.
I never thought green, peach and purple went together. But I love how they look and since it's almost full shade in this area, I need vivid colors to brighten it up.
Anyway, thanks for looking!!
