I'm a Mommy, My Story, PSA, (LONG) w/ PIC
I want to thank Tiffany (teddysmama1021) for posting what happened. Thank you ladies all so much for your prayers. As you know last Saturday I was rushed to the hospital for what I thought was a stomach virus, dehydration, UTI something along those lines. Well is turns out I had a sudden attack of pre-eclampsia, and my placenta had started to detach. This also caused me to go into renal failure, and I have fluid on my lungs. I will explain more when I do my birth story.
I had to have an emergency c-section w/ a spinal at 31 weeks 5 days in order to save mine and my little angels life. Thank god they had time to give me a shot of steroids for her lungs.
Ava Grace was born April 17th, 2010 at 6:55pm. She was 3lbs 14oz, and 17 inches long. She is currently in the NICU, and we have a long road ahead of us but she is such a fighter. She amazes us everyday with her progress. The nurses tell us she is a feisty one, and had a bit of an attitude problem (which they love to see). She is breathing on her own, an gaining weight everyday. I wasn't able to see her due to my condition until Wed which was so incredibly hard. Today she came off the photo therapy, and we are going to get to hold her tomorrow for the first time.
My DH is my hero. He has shown such amazing strength through all of this, and has taken such good care of me and our little nugget as we refer to her.
I have been pumping and have amazing success with my supply, and they are able to give the milk to Ava for her feedings which makes me so happy and helps me feel connected. I was lucky to have so much support at the hospital from the LC's, and the nurses. I am in awe of the nurses who took care or me, and who continue to take care of my little one.
As for now I get my staples out on Monday, and have to be on some blood pressure medication for a bit due to recovering from the pre-eclampsia. Honestly the pain of the section seems like nothing compared to the pain I had a week ago.
Is there a NICU support thread on here for mom's with babies in the NICU? I know there have been a few mommies whose babies came early recently.
Now for my PSA:
If you are having any swelling please have your doctor check you out. It might not just be normal swelling with pregnancy, it very well might be but you don't want to take a risk. I had some swelling, and it was nowhere near severe enough for me to think it was the start of pre-eclampsia. I really thought it was just a normal part of pregnancy. Take some time to google pre-eclampsia and educate yourself. I know I am preaching but if this thread saves one mommy, and one baby it is all worth it!

I am so glad to hear that you and your baby are doing ok. Thanks so much for sharing your story, I am the type of person who hesitates to call the OB for "little things", but you just never know what's little and what's not.
that your beautiful little girl continues to thrive! She is beautiful, even with her little sunglasses!

congrats! i'm so glad to hear you and your little girl are doing good. i  that the nurses say she has an attitude problem. that means shes a fighter and she'll be ok.

Hi Nicole,
Ava is beautiful. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. You know I am close by. I would be more than happy to run any errands you need. Also, DH is a wonderful cook if you guys need meals! That offer is there for however long you need it.

Congratulations on the birth of your DD. for both of you. I had pre-eclampsia with DS and eye problems too. If you ever need to talk I am here to listen.

Your story is SO much like mine! I suddenly developed severe pre-eclampsia at 31 weeks 6 days and DS was born via emergency c/s at 32 weeks exactly, weighing 3lbs 6oz, 15 inches, also needed phototherapy, and stayed in the NICU for 25 days exactly, discharged at 4lbs 8oz.
I know exactly what you mean about being in awe of the NICU nurses - at my hospital they were amazing and I am so thankful for how well they took care of DS.
Please feel free to FM me if you ever want to talk - my DS is now 7 weeks old and thankfully growing so well.
CONGRATULATIONS to you! Many prayers for your sweet little girl to continue to grow big and strong!!!!

What an amazing story! I am so happy that everything turned out so great and that you and baby are healthy! Isn't it amazing what doctors and nurses can do for both mothers and their children????? I can't wait to hear updates! Congrats Momma!
