Piece of advice from our childbirth class
Thought I'd share... havent had baby yet so cant say whether or not it helps, but figure it wont hurt to try.
The nurses that ran the class told us to pour witchazel on a bunch of sanitary pads, wrap each in plastic wrap and freeze and take one out as you need it. They said that it is very soothing and will help with the swelling down below after delivery.
Already have a stack in my freezer ready to go

At St. Charles, they give you wipes (i believe witch hazel) that will help cool down there. They have you place a couple on a pad after giving birth, and it cools you down.
They also have this thing that you twist, and it becomes really cold. It feels good and soothing.

Re: Piece of advice from our childbirth class
That DOES sound very soothing! Good to know.
Sounds like it would even work for a really nasty painful yeast infection. I've had some in the past where i wanted to put my coochie on ice while waiting for the monistat to work!

Re: Piece of advice from our childbirth class
Very interesting and good to know.
How far in advance should we do this? My guess is a few weeks in case we go early, but I am not entirely sure.
Thanks!

Re: Piece of advice from our childbirth class
My hosptial provided these HUGE and long sanitary looking napkins that were actually ice packs. Definately helped! I took a bunch home with me as well.

Thanks fo the tip!
Fortunately this child and I have an agreement that delivery will be PAIN FREE and he/she will just slide right out. So I probably won't need these.

Re: Piece of advice from our childbirth class
i've heard of people using them...i don't like to feel soggy and wet though. i don't think you have to make them up far in advance though. personally, earth mama angel baby bottom balm was my best friend last time.

They had these at Winthrop also and they were a HUGE help! I kept asking the nurses for more so I had a nice size stash to go home with.

Re: Piece of advice from our childbirth class
This might be a dumb question, but...where can you buy witch hazel wipes or pads?

Re: Piece of advice from our childbirth class
I didn't have a vbirth- but when I was in recovery, i saw this one nurse take a baby diaper, pull the insude apart from the outside on one end and fill it with ice and she was giving them to the moms who vbirths..they all said it worked great. The girls were just using the diapers and going to the ice machine we had in the hospital.
