Permit for alarm system???
We recently got an alarm system (Front Point) and I as I was telling my aunt and uncle about it last night, they asked me if I had gotten a permit for it. Apparently you need a permit from the police and fire stations if it goes through a central monitoring system? They were saying that you could be fined $300 if you have an alarm and they have to come out and you don't have a permit.....
True? False?

Yes, you definitely need a permit. The alarm company didn't tell you that?

Our alarm co didnt tell us either but the village did when we went to switch our utilities over. I'd just call and tell them you didnt know.

Re: Permit for alarm system???
Contact the town and ask them for the paperwork. Our alarm company gave it to us when they did the installation. It's pretty easy to do.

Really? That stinks! My DH does alarms so I'm just surprised there are companies that don't tell their customers this up front during the installation process.

I think our alarm company took care of it when we first installed it. You also need to renew it every year I think.

Re: Permit for alarm system???
yes and its yearly so you would have to pay $50 every year to avoid being fined if it goes off for a false alarm

Re: Permit for alarm system???
We've had several false alarms at our house and never got charged. My DH doesn't believe we have a permit - we have ADT and we're in Orange county. Hmmm...I'll have to look into it.

You might not need one in Orange County.

Re: Permit for alarm system???
Your alarm company should have told you about it. Ours gave us the paperwork to sign and they filled it out for us and sent it in.

Re: Permit for alarm system???
I've never heard of this and we've had an alarm for years! We are in Suffolk so hopefully PP are right and they are not needed in Suffolk.
