Tyler refuses to nap in his crib

I'm at a loss. I had them both on the same schedule and that's long gone.

Since Tyler learned how to roll over and sleep on his belly he constantly wakes himself up from his afternoon nap (morning naps we are on the go so he sleeps in the carseat)

I'm not sure what to do. Every day I try because I think that maybe today is the day he won't wake himself up. It never is. Should I just nap him in the swing until he gets over this?

I wish I could just throw him in the stroller and go for a walk bc I know he would pass out but obviously I can't leave Jack napping in his crib in an empty house.

Any words on wisdom? Advice? I NEED an hour of childfree time. I really really do!

I'm having sort of the same issue. Now Mason can pull himself up and stand in the crib he won't nap. Only way he naps (on weekends) is when we're out for a walk, car ride or falling asleep on me or DH holding him then we carry him to the crib.
If I put him in awake he stands up the whole time.

They're having this issue at daycare so they said when he's getting tired they put him in the swing and it works. Sometimes they move him to his crib and sometimes they leave him there. I say do what you gotta do to let him nap long

I let my little guy nap in the swing during the day. He sleeps in his bassinet at night with no problems, but also hates it during the day.

How old is tyler? DD started to nap good in her crib at about 4 months...she is now 6..but also since the last 2 weeks she has been sleeping on her belly too and it is better....how does he wake himself up?

He is almost six months and just started sleeping on his belly within the last week. He sleeps great at night but when he rolls over during the day he wakes himself up.

He is almost six months and just started sleeping on his belly within the last week. He sleeps great at night but when he rolls over during the day he wakes himself up.

Well I know the books say put them on their back still but I have been putting her down on her belly now that she totally sleeps on it...when I put her on her back she just rolls over onto her belly anyway so I put her on her belly and then I stand there to make sure that she is breathing - I get nervous...lol....and then I check on her a few times..lol...is it that he rolls from belly to back?

We have that issue with Sydeney, she can roll to her belly and not wake up , but then when she wants to get back over, she has a big belly and the roll kinda ends up as a FLOP and she wakes up and at night was doign this every ten minutes. After 3 nights, I lost it and bought that boppy I have posted about before...with the straps kinda built it. Works wonderful....May not be the proper thing to do but so be it. Not sure if you'd feel comfortable using it though, but heres a pic..

God help me when we have to stop using it.

Why don't you just put him on his belly to begin with?

I always belly sleep Lola and she doesn't move.

dumb question, but have you allowed him to cry a bit and let him figure it out on his own? it is odd that he sleeps well at night this way but won't for a nap. if he can do it then, then i'd suspect he can even during the day. is he sleeping at all during the day? or is he up all day and crashing at night? that's a tough one. i think it's something you might just have to wait out until he gets it. the swing is good but it's a temprary fix as you know. but if you need a kid-free hour or so, then use it!

my personal opinion (which by the way I know nothing lol) is that he is so used to sleeping on the go. Taking Jack to school, going to the park, going for walks, etc. that it's hard for him to nap. He was a great napper when he was swaddled (3 hours) but those days are long gone.

I was just going to suggest the same thing.

I know for me once Ryan is up for a nap that's it, all bets are off. He has always been like that.

I do let him cry for a few minutes but his cry is the kind where he can't catch his breath and it doesn't sound like it will end on its own. I'm also so worried that he'll wake up Jack from his nap.

oh ok- i asked this question too! i got white noise machines in both my kids rooms for that reason. they are across the hall from one another. i found that DD miraculously slept through even the loudest cries.

They both have sound machines on, but their cribs share a wall so it makes me nervous. Neither one has ever woken the other up (during the night) but I am soooo scared of waking Jack from a nap too early. He really needs his full nap otherwise he's a nightmare. So, it's kind of like I will deal with Tyler's crankiness because it's not half as bad as what I will be dealing with if he wakes up Jack.

good point actually-i think in the healthy sleep habits book he talks about that-on the go type of sleeping/life-style and how it can wreak havoc on naps etc. so that could very well be it! i know it's hard when you have another child to live around to get a solid nap schedule for the younger one. i found it very hard! yikes-good luck! i know that for my DS, his napping got so much better/consistent around 7 months.
