Refusing to sleep in crib at 23 months?

I'm at a loss here.

DS has been sleeping in his crib since the day we brought him home from the hospital.

We did CIO at 5 mos and he has pretty much been STTN in his crib for night and naps since then.

Every once in a while if he is sick we will let him come into our bed, but as soon as he is better, back into his crib with no problem.

Now for the past week he was been screaming bloody murder when we try to put him in his crib. He will only nap on the couch downstairs and only sleeps either in bed with us or on the couch.

He is the most wild sleeper and moves everywhere. I get no sleep when he is in our bed. I am preggo so I'm not getting good sleep as it is.

We tried CIO again for the past 3 nights and after 30 minutes or so he will go down but is up again at 1AMish.

Has anyone else experienced this? What do I do? Just keep CIO?

It's so much harder now that he is toddler and can really scream and talk!

UPDATE:

I'm literally at my wits end. It's now going on a week and a half and he screams when I put him in his crib.

He stops as soon as I take him downstairs and almost giggles at us like he's won the fight.

How do I know whether he's ready for a toddler bed or if he justs wants to cuddle with us?

If it is the latter, I don't want to transition him to a toddler bed bc then he will still refuse to sleep on his own.

I really need my bed back. I'm exhausted.Chat Icon

I am right there with you. Peyton will be 2 April 18th. She slept 7:30 to 7:30 from 10 weeks old until about 12 weeks ago. I used to put her down wide awake, say goodnight and that was that. Now she cries and screams. She actually flung herself out one day in a fit of angerChat Icon I have been tossing around the idea of putting her in a big girl bedChat Icon I am a nervous wreck. She has NEVER slept anywhere but her crib, never in my bed, never on the couch. I am at a loss too. The worst part is she has been waking up in the morning between 4:30 and 6amChat Icon for the day, it sucks! I have to get up and get her because she YELLS so loud that she will wake up Jordan. I wish I had an answer, I can only sympathize(sp?) with youChat Icon

I guess my concern is that it's not the bed thing, but that he just wants to sleep with me & DH.

How do I know that if I switch him to him own bed, he's not going to just come out of his room and into our bed every night?

I was afraid of the same thing...she never got out of bed...after months and months of her being in her bed...she did go through that stage...we would just keep taking her back in her bed...if we had to sometimes we would lay with her to sleep. Its almost the same as CIO but you have to keep bringing them in their bed instead of them being 'trapped' in their crib.

Get him excited about the bed. Have him pick out the bedding that he likes and continue to tell him that this is his bed and this is where he will sleep...not in mommy & daddy's bed. Chat Icon

I agree...you wont know it til you try it....but we hyped it up soooooooooooooooo much that she was soooooo excited to be a big girl in her "big girl dora bed"...we let her pick it out at the store....let her watch us set it up and she jumped into it and hugged her dora pillow and wanted to take a nap right then and there!! Hahaha! We kept both in the room for about a week...if we thought there was a prob or it was too early....but never needed it...we tried a nap first and she slept so good..and was soo excited to share with us that she slept in her big girl dora bed that we tried that very same night..and she slept through the night! havent had a prob since (she is 31 mo old now)

we close the door so if she does get up and out we can hear the door open (and made sure the gate was locked upstairs!)

good luck!

You can always leave both up in the room and if he gives you a prob tell him that he needs to stay in his bed or back to the crib!?!? that might make him stay!?!?! But def give it a shot! cant hurt! esp if the crib is still there as back up

this is her in it right after we set it up pretending to go to sleepChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Brandon has been doing the same thing!! He SCREAMS as soon as we put him in the crib. I lay down on the floor next to him, play with him a little to get him in a good mood (have to avoid Faht mong) Chat Icon and then I wait for him to fall asleep. It has been working for the past few weeks and he has been much better at going to sleep quickly.
