cats & babies
Anyone have concerns with their cats sleeping in the bassinet or crib with the baby? I've already found my cat laying in the bassinet, a mere 6hrs after the bassinet was in the house...

Re: cats & babies
I am going to do everything I can to keep my cats out of the baby's room or sleeping in any of the baby's things. I read somewhere (maybe here?!?) about lining the crib with aluminum foil, which will scare the cat and keep her from jumping in there in the future. I don't know if it works, I don't have any furniture yet.
I just don't want them to leave hair in the baby's things!

I went to a pets and babies class, and this is what they recommend BEFORE the baby comes so that the cats get turned off to the baby's items and won't keep going in them later on.
Otherwise, I think you'll have to keep the cats out of baby's room by closing the door etc. because they will jump into a crib, bassinet, etc.

Re: cats & babies
yes very much so! i know my cat will want to be snuggling in there. We are going to keep him in the basement at night and during the day the baby will be close by in a pack and play so im not worried, i can stop him before he does
Although my cousin just had a baby and has 2 cats and the cats are actually pretty spooked by the baby and havnt gone near her. But who knows how long that will last

Re: cats & babies
My cats have been seen in the crib, in the PNP, bouncer, stroller, etc.
The only thing that works is a spray bottle of water-I did it twice for each cat and they aren't going near the stuff now.
I plan on just keeping them supervised with the baby.

Both of my cats were immune to tin foil. They were both playing and sleeping on it. The spray bottle works like a charm. They don't like being sprayed.

Re: cats & babies
I have pictures of my cat in the bouncy seat right after we brought it home fro the shower and curled up in the bottom of the stroller the minute we put it together, but we chased him out and then he was fine. He never tried to go in the crib or bassinet, but he wasn't a big jumper either. And once the baby was here he stayed even farther away from him.

My cats are big wussies and are scared of everything. I will keep the spray bottle in mind too!

The spray bottle was the best $1 I've spent in awhile!

Re: cats & babies
i would love the option of closing the door, however, we have tried that and cat will meow outside of the door until you let him in. he's literally meowed for hours until we finally gave up to get some sleep. and he's a cuddler so all i need is for him to snuggle with the baby like he does to our heads (or ON our heads) while she is in bassinet, crib, PNP, anything.
aluminum foil doesnt work he plays with it, spray bottle doesnt work tried for jumping on counters, etc...
looks like my last resort is my only option- mission give cat back to inlaws is in full effect.

Re: cats & babies
I am going to look into a crib tent. I will find the website and post it.
It bascially takes the place of bumpers or breathable bumpers and is completely cat proof.
Not sure I love the look for my nursery though...

I was a bit concerned but when we brought David from the hospital and he let out this high pitched cry, freaked our cat out and she had no interested in him at all after that

Re: cats & babies
Here is a pic of the crib tent- it works as a breathable bumper as well. I'm just not sure I am loving the look but it definitley will keep out the kitties!
