Progesterone Suppositories

So, I just got a call from my RE and my progesterone level is a 6 and they want it to be at least 10. I now have to take Progesterone Suppositories twice a day. I'm SO upset about this. It's like one thing after another...Chat Icon

Has anyone every had to do this? If so, did you have side effects? Reading the possible side effests is really worrying me! Chat Icon

TIA!

Re: Progesterone Suppositories

I had to use them with my first pregnancy with my son and I am using them again this time. My progesterone with my son was 5!! This time it was a little higher.

It is yucky and I would recommend that you use a panty liner. Otherwise, the side effects are pretty limited. Most of the side effects that you read about are only applicable when you are taking the pills orally. Chat Icon Chat Icon

FM me if you have any questions.

Re: Progesterone Suppositories

i know a lot of people that had to this. i probably will have to as well if i ever ovulate Chat Icon .

from what i have heard although its not the most comfortable thing in the world its nothing to be upset about either because its fairly common. my friend did them after her IUI and got a BFP and had to do them through the first 6 weeks or so. but she's in her second trimester now so it helped!

did you do meds this cycle? many REs particularly use them after meds cycles when progesterone tends to be lower.

Thanks ladies!! I'm really not looking forward to it... Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was on Clomid this month with a trigger shot mixed in. I'm 7DPO, so I'm glad that they tested me now and not later.

Ugh I really hope this is my month bc this whole process is really NOT fun! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had to take them in weeks 5-12 of my pregnancy because of low progesterone. The only side effect (which was made worse by pregnancy itself) was EXTREME exhaustion. I was sleeping constantly and I was ALWAYS tired. It's not really a big deal to take them though, you get use to it. Chat Icon

They made me CRAZY dizzy but I had been taking them orally. Taking them as a suppository cut back dramatically on the side effects.

I had to take them 3 times a day when I was early in this pregnancy and I had no side effects. I was actually taking the maximum you're allowed to take. My prog was 10 to start but never got above 16 but I'm 32 weeks now so I guess it was good enough!

Thanks, ladies! I guess there are worse things in life.. I have to take them twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. I just actually used my first one and I am NOT a fan! LOL You are definitely right about needing a panty liner! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Progesterone Suppositories

They are messy but otherwise not a big deal. If it is at all possible, try to sit or lay down for awhile after inserting them, it cuts down on the leakage.
