Non-CIO Moms, when did your DC start sleeping through the night? Ever?

I don't have the heart to CIO. We always comfort DS to sleep and he wakes up once at around 3am for a bottle. He drinks and goes back to sleep in my arms. It's not that bad. I'm used to it.

I'm just wondering when they start STTN on their own.

DS is 10m old. We plan to start TTC later this year. I would really like DS to be STTN before we have another little one. I can deal with 2 in diapers. Don't think i could deal with 2 kids waking up in the middle of the night...potentially waking one another up.

DS dropped the middle of the night bottle on his own at 6 months (he's 7 months now). He still does wake up sometimes if he is flustered and can't get his pacifier in himself in the dark, or if he has a nightmare. I go in and soothe him or put in the pacifier. Some nights it's bad, and other nights he doesn't wake up at all. But he doesn't wake to eat anymore.

2 out of my 3 will fall asleep on their own if I just put them in the crib. The other one Sophia sometimes needs to be held and rocked for a few minutes before you can put her in the crib. They are 6 months now but on the most part have been doing that since 4 1/2 months I would say. Right after the 8 pm bottle they go right in and for the most part fall asleep right away and get up anywhere from 6am-9am.

DS slept through the night pretty weel around 4.5 months until 7 months, then we had a difficult time getting him to sleep. We had to adjust his bedtime and daytime sleep habits, then he was fine again until around a year, right about the time he learned to walk. Then fine again until about 2 years, right before he learned to talk. But he stopped the middle of the night feeding around 4.5 months--I think he had a brief growth spurt after that and needed bottles again. So yes, they generally do learn to sleep through the night even without CIO at some point. Establishing a bedtime routine helped, and also making sure he got enough naps during the day.

Do you think DC is getting enough to eat during the day? Or is the bottle a soothing thing? Have you tried giving water instead? That might tell you if DC is hungry or just wants the bottle (and you) to soothe himself back to sleep.

We did CIO, but not til DS was one.

My DS was the same, he woke for a bottle in the middle of the night and I coudln't stand not to feed him b/c he wasn't a big eater.

Once he turned one, and he was off the bottle and he was drinking milk, not formula (milk being a drink as a opposed to formula being the main source of nutrition) we did CIO and it worked pretty fast

I am not really a CIO mom. TJ started sleeping through the night on his own at around 2 months. Occasionally would wake for a bottle in the middle of the night during a growth spurt. He was a good sleeper from day 1.

Derek, not such a great sleeper. I have started letting him fuss and cry for 5 min. here and there because sometimes he gets so overtired he can't get comfortable no matter what I do. He also isn't a great self-soother so he only falls asleep while drinking a bottle, in the car, or while I'm pushing him around my house in the stroller. The longest I have ever let him cry was maybe 10 min.

Sometimes I think every kid is different and when they are young they just need thier mommy's.

no he never slept thru, I never let DS CIO until he got to one year. my coworker told me I better let him CIO now bc soon he will try to jump out of the crib. we did it and he was fine for about 2 months. now for the past month or so he's been waking up every single night and I'm not sure what to do! I don't know if it's bc he is teething or he is playing us. we have a little one on the way in a few months, and I see a very tired future if this doesn't stop. now CIO will be worse bc he can call us now, talk about feeling guilty

Sabrina slept through the night at about 2 months. We followed the approach of keeping it light and feeding her more often in the day time and then once her belly was full and it was dark, she slept.

For us, though, it was like a honeymoon period and it lasted until she began teething and then she was up a few times a night.

My DD was 7 months my DS is 14 months and I'm still waiting. He wakes 2-3 times a night still.

10.5 weeks. He then came down with pneumonia around 13 wks & woke up a couple times a night. Now at 15 wks he's recovering & getting back on track.
