Questions about STAR
We just got our application in the mail and my name is wrong. Should I call to have it changed or does it not matter? All the other info is correct, including DH's name.
Also, if we aren't over 65 and don't make less than $74,000, we don't have to show our 2008 tax return, correct? This is how I am reading it but DH wanted me to make sure

It just came in the mail. We purchased our home in August 2009, we didn't request it or anything. And it's already filled out which is nice, I didn't expect that

We printed and brought to town assesors office. You do not need tax return we did have to have drivers licenses photocopied

no, just the middle class rebate was discontinued NOT the STAR program that lets say you and I use.

We're moving into our new house on March 1.
Do I assume that the current owners will take care of the STAR paperwork for us? Do I have to do something?

No you have to apply yourself and provide documentation that you own your home. It will not take affect until next year.

we had to go to our town hall to pick it up. since your just doing the basic you would just need to show your deed or closing statement and proof of residency (driver's license, utility bill, etc) They never sent our star app to the house (village of lindy/town of babylon) suffolk county has to file before March (1st i think) it will not reflect on your taxes until next year.
