We got our FIRST HOME!!!!!!!! (long but amazing story!)
I can't believe I'm writing that we will finally have a home!!! And what a story of... our first home. 
After four years of being together, three years of living together, two and a half years of marriage and a LOT of living with my IL's - we were able to begin the search for our first home! I still can't get over it! We started looking the first week in January and I thought it would take a lot longer than it did! We saw less than five units (Townhomes were what we knew we wanted from the beginning) that we liked enough to bid on - we bid and it didn't work out (either they didn't want to counter or we didn't want to pay what they wanted). Well, I realized that all happened for a reason!
My Agent called me with a place in "The Windcrest" (a community that I always thought was way out of reach for Vin and I, to be honest) that just came on the market. I immediately made an appointment to see it. It was a fabulous price and my Agent said that unit was totally redecorated and brand new (only built in 2001 and just re-done). I never thought we would get it so I went while DH was at work with our Agent. We made an aggressive offer because it was priced right but it was *just* out of our budget - I realized that it was a stretch but that they would have to come down a little if we could get it. So, we tried.
We went back and fourth and met in the middle which was *JUST* in our budget and I felt it was fair. Waited. Waited. Finally heard that she accepted our offer!!!  That was last week. Then, I went and signed the contracts Friday - sent them out first thing Saturday morning. They should be getting them and signing them either today or tomorrow.
This is where it gets amazing... Yesterday I wanted to finally take my husband to see it in person! My parents came as well and the homeowner met us there. I just couldn't believe we were looking at our first home and that it is as nice as it is. We have waited a long time for this (we have been married over 2 years and have been living with my IL's saving and waiting for Vin to finish college and get a teaching job). Ken getting hurt and me having to move to Jersey to help care for him set us back about 8 months but again, it happened for a reason. Once we got there, I was so nervous we were going to encounter a nutso homeowner - you just never know and you hear HORROR stories. But, the process could not have been easier and honestly, the homeowner is one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever met. We are very lucky.
The homeowner came to the door yesterday and could NOT have been nicer. She said welcome to your new home, make it your own, look around, ask questions, etc. She's a petite little lady, in her 60's with her petite little dog lol. I asked about the floor in the kitchen because I wanted to try and match the tile and do the same in a small entry-way area and she replied, oh there's two extra boxes in the garage - help yourself! My husband, parents and I could not believe how wonderful she is and they LOVED the place just as much as I did.
Come to find out that she lives in the community. The place we are purchasing was her husband's. She has her own unit. They met there, later in life, and began dating and got married. Then, they re-decorated from TOP to BOTTOM his entire unit. They were planning on selling hers and moving into his (His is the one we are getting). He, out of nowhere, got very sick and passed away. It was sudden. She was and still is devastated. So upset that she couldn't move into the unit - she is keeping hers and put his up on the market and we got it. She told us this story yesterday, choking back tears, and it brought tears to our eyes just hearing it. She said she couldn't bear to live there where they picked out everything together for each other to stay. She priced it right because she doesn't want a hassle and she said that when she heard it was a young married couple she went out of her way to work with us so that we could get the place. She said he would be happy knowing it was a young, nice married couple getting it.
I'm just happy that she is going to be our neighbor! She is right down the road in her own unit which is the same floorplan as ours. So, we should be getting the official word today but she already told us yesterday that she is signing the moment it reaches her Atty's office. She was so sweet. And our first official "friend" in our new community. Charlotte even has a friend in her little dog Lucy.
That's the story of our first home.

OMG, Dani, it is beautiful!!! And it's so nice that you got to meet the owner and that was was so sweet. I feel for her. I am sure selling it to you both and Char must make her feel a tad bit better....

ETA- Is this the development across from Maureen's Kitchen? Dh and I drove in there once if so, and we thought it was so nice!
