removing wallpaper

one if the homes we are looking at has EVERY wall surface covered in wallpaper. It would take us forever to do it ourselves.

Have you had wallpaper professionally removed and then the walls painted.

How did it come out, and how much does it cost?

it's not that bad to remove the wallpaper yourself. all it took was hot water mixed with vinager and some scrappers. then we'll just have to prime and paint. i'd save the money and do it....maybe have a wallpaper removal party with friends!?

Its a lot of work - we did it in the DR and foyer. we are about to start the kitchen and I am dreading it!
We bought a wallpaper steamer for $60 at Lowes and it was worth every penny!

its daunting but i wouldn't let it stop me from a house if you really like it - look beyond the wallpaper

DH's friend is a painter and his trick is water, vinegar and fabric softener. Combine everything into a spray bottle and saturate the walls. It literally peels off. It's not that bad!

You might get lucky..the wallpaper in the bedrooms of my house literally came down in sheets with basically no glue left on the wall. It was a very easy job. Now the bathroom on the other hand was a nightmare, Im guessing from the steam, we ended up replacing most of the walls because we did a total gut job anyway.

it can be easy to do yourself depending on the wallpaper. our new house had wallpaper everywhere and some was under paneling and they painted over the wallcovering......it was cheaper and easier to replace the drywall for us.
