Those undecided about BFing..or anyone who can help.
I am undecided if i want to BF, I am leaning more towards BFing for at least the time that I am home with DS, but after that I want to switch to formula.
In this case..would you register for a pump? I really don't want to spend all that money and only be using it for 8-12 weeks or have other ppl buy it and not use it.
Suggestions?

I would wait to make sure BFing works out first. If you're only going to be using it for 8-12 weeks, you can rent one instead, or purchase a manual one.

ITA!
I BFd for 10 months. I thought I would be lucky to make it to 3. I went back to work and continued (by pumping) and the months just kept going by.
This PG I REALLY want a new pump (electric as my old one was manual) but I don't want to spend the $$ until I know BFing my new LO is successful.

I registered for the Medela Swing Single Electric Breastpump. I figured this would be good enough.

I just posted about this last week. I think, once I see that I (and little one), take to it - I'll prob buy a manual pump.

I have the same thoughts as you- I'll try it for at least as long as I'm home (if it works at all).
I'm going to wait til I have the baby and rent a pump before I buy one.

I only BF'ed for 2-3 weeks. If I had a good pump, I may have continued.

I am planning on trying to BF.. I'm going to rent the pump and register for the acessories until I am sure that I will be successful at it then I may just buy the pump myself.

I would at least get a manual single pump in case you NEED to use it. If BF'ing works out, then you can get an electric/double.

I waited to buy one until after DD was born and I knew I would need one. I bought the smaller medela one. But I did not pump much, just mostly to build up a freezer stash.

In your situation, I would definitely rent one from the hospital. You would have a professional grade pump at a FRACTION of the cost and if you only rent for 2 or 3 months, you're still only paying a fraction of the cost of buying a pump.

I registered for the pump as it is my goal to EBF for at least 4-6 months. My plan is to rent a pump for a few weeks from the hospital as long as I am able to BF and if it works, I will buy the Medela PIS on my registry.

ITA. If you decide that you want to continue BFing, you can always buy one after that. If you're BFing while you're home, you may not even use the pump that much.

I'm planning to rent a pump and buy all of the accessories like the tubes and things new. I think you can rent them from hospitals and medical supply stores, and maybe pharmacies.
I'm planning to rent from Centereach Pharmacy. I saw on their website that they have them and it's a small family pharmacy that my parents have used for years.
