First time home buyers did you get the $ 8000 check?
and if you did when did you close. How long did it take to receive the check?

We closed on July 29th and we got our check around the middle/end of september.

we got the 7500 one from the year prior in our tax return money
im not sure how people got it before filing taxes

we closed in October. Rather than amending our taxes, we are waiting to file our 2009 taxes. My accountant said it just didn't make sense to pay him to amend when a couple of months later we were going to file for 09.

not sure if there is a point to amend at this time, we know typically we get our taxes done asap but it doesn't go out until mid Feb. and the checks typically do not come in until another two months since our accountant doesn't do an EFile/direct depo.
if you wanted to amend, you contact your accountant and they will ask for a print out of your closing papers (forgot which exact one) and then you fill out the amended form and send it in. Very simple. If your do your taxes yourself i am sure turbo tax has the amended form as an option.

Closed on 7/30. Had accountant file an amended 2008 return in August. $8000 was deposited in our acct in September.

We used turbotax, so it didn't really cost us anything (or maybe very little, not sure) to amend taxes.
We closed in September and still waiting for the check.
