Baby Proofing the House...question???
When you start the whole process of 'baby proofing' the house...where is the best place to purchase everything? The door stoppers, knob stoppers, gates, plugs, etc???
Thanks

Re: Baby Proofing the House...question???
My Ped just spoke to me (5 mo. visit) about starting this process. He said that BRU and BBB have everything and that we should start now before ds starts crawling.

Re: Baby Proofing the House...question???
i'm going to reply but won't be of much help so forgive me! i am not the norm i think b.c i did not have to baby proof at all! DD was so good first of all-once i gave a good stern NO!! she retreated and moved along....also, she was never ever left unsupervised in the kitchen etc...but my house is small and i can see her from almost every room. if you have any stand alone furniture or wobbly things i would be more inclined to take care of them first. i never bought anything though. even my breakables have survived! lol i think you can wait on the door knob things until your DC is walking and grabbing at the doors. i know for my SIL the kitchen door locks were a must. the only thing i really did was cover up my outlets, hid any open wiring, and got rid of one shaky table. some of the things in BBB or BRU are a little over the top so just go with what you think you might need..

Re: Baby Proofing the House...question???
I never officially "baby proofed". I kind of went along with the flow. Once DS figured out how to open the cabinet where the CDs and DVDs are, then I got a latch for it, I never the did door knobs or anything like that.

Re: Baby Proofing the House...question???
Our baby proofing consisted of cabinet locks in the kitchen where the cleaning supplies are, a baby gate at the top of the stairs (but not the bottom), and covers for unused outlets.
We did that when DD started crawling.

Re: Baby Proofing the House...question???
BBB and BRU have everything, but IMO it's a little overboard. We started with the outlet covers and then watched to see what she goes for... Once she could move around I arranged things so that there were no visible wires, we are very careful about small stuff that she could put in her mouth (loose change, bottle caps, etc)
She was instantly attracted to the stairs and they are very steep in our house, so we got baby gates for the top and bottom. I moved bathroom cleaning supplies up higher.
I never felt the need for the foam corner cushions. We have a wood coffee table that she loves to cruise along, but she is careful when she stands up. She's not yet tall enough to reach our flat screen, but well deal with that when the time comes.

Re: Baby Proofing the House...question???
My (and DW's) philosophy was to keep DC out of the hospital. Most places aren't baby-proofed, so I'd rather teach them what they can and can't do. We had cabinets with chemicals locked up, outlet covers, and the stairs blocked. That was pretty much it.
