sono prior to getting pregnant? i have a question

sorry if this is long but I am confused :)

I went for a sono today....I am on month 5 of TTCing and i have painful menstrual cramps after I "O" that I wanted to get checked out to rule out any cysts....

so the tech comes in does her thing leaves to speak to the radiologist, comes back and says I am all clear except i do have a small fibroid on my uterus but the radiologist didnt even want her to mention it to me

so of course i asked a million questions, where is it? does this effect TTC? how small are we talking?" She just said ask your doctor

so do i have to make another appt to go to talk with my dr. They are so busy, I doubt I am going to get an appt to talk about my one small fibroid. But I still wanted some answers to a few other q's as well

So is this the norm for everyone else? Is your dr around to come and talk to you after the sono?

My dr and the lab are in two sep buildings so I dont know if that makes things more difficult & I should switch OBGYNs or is that the way it is regardless?

Re: sono prior to getting pregnant? i have a question

i too went for an internal sono and regular sono when i came off the pill because ovulation was so painful for me i wanted to make sure i didn't have any cysts. when i went they actually cound a teeny tiny cyst on my uterus that the tech and doc most likley said will go away when i get my period. that was back in june, and i just got my BFP a few days ago so i guess they right and it did go away. Chat Icon good luck!!

Re: sono prior to getting pregnant? i have a question

I just had a fibroid removed. I had a internal sono and they found polyps so I went in and had them removed and when she was in there for the polyps she found a fibroid. My dr. told me you can leave them (she took a sample and it was fine) but when I started talking to her about TTC and the fibroid causing problems....she told me I might have implantation problems because the egg could implant on the fibroid since the fibroid was jetting out into my uterus. SHe said it was my choice to remove it or not.....but she did say if it was her she would have it out......So I had it out. It is a outpatient surgery and then its a 2 week no sex no tampon type recovery.

I had that surgery in Nov and I got the all clear from her 2 weeks later...

I would schedule an appt to go over the fibroid.....it really depends on the size and location.

FM me if you have any more questions.

Re: sono prior to getting pregnant? i have a question

If it makes you feel any better.........I have a VERY small uterine fibroid and it didn't interfere with TTC or having a healthy pregnancy. In fact, since having my DD it seems to have shrunk even smaller now. Usually fibroids are nothing to worry about, they are just benign growths. In fact, many women have them and don't even know it. They don't *usually* don't cause any discomfort or issues so that is probably why they didn't make a big deal out of it. In fact, I was at my RE on Monday and had a sono and they didn't even mention my fibroid until I asked if it was still there. They said is was so tiny it wasn't even worth noting.

To answer your question...........at my RE's office if you have a sono you ALWAYS see the dr. right after to go over what they saw (even if they saw nothing) and to answer any questions. Every office is different though.

EDIT - In terms of removing a fibroid.........my RE doesn't want to even touch them unless it has been shown to be causing difficulty with conceiving. He said leaving the fibroid alone is better than trying to remove it (in most cases) because the possibility of a build up of scar tissue in that part of your body is a far worse issue and problem then having a fibroid. Again, I left mine alone (but it was small) which was right at the opening of my uterus and I had no trouble getting pregnant.

Re: sono prior to getting pregnant? i have a question

thank you all for your replies

I will probably make an appt w/ the dr in a month or two if still no BFP

I am thinking I may want to switch OBGYNs anyway to one that has the sono and technicians in their office.
