My 2 month old will be getting his 1st vaccines, what can I expect?

My DS is 9 weeks and has not had any vaccines. The pediatrician didn't want him to start until 2 months - he didn't even get Hep B in the hospital.

I think the ped will only give him 2 vaccines at a time but I don't know which ones (i'm very uneducated regarding vaccines and need to get my act together).

What can I expect when he gets his shots besides crying? Do they usually develop fevers, redness at the site, pain, soreness, etc? I'm actually really scared of his reaction and am thinking of moving the apptmt to Friday so we can be with him the next 2 days (sat/sun).

Every baby is different. DS is vaccinated according to the CDC schedule. After his 2 month shots, he was very sleepy. Several hours later, he was fussy and slightly warm. He was fine later that night. He hasn't had any reaction to vaccines since then.

Mason hasn't had any issues with any of his vaccines. Only time I gave him the baby tylenol was once around 4 months b/c he was just cranky so I assumed the shot was bothering him.

He'll probably just cry. I don't know if you DS uses the paci, but I brought it with me and had him suck on it when he got the shots. Kinda kept his mind occupied then after it was done I just held him till he calmed a bit and he fell asleep in his carseat on the way home. The Ped does it so fast it won't be so bad.

My DD had her first shots at 2 months, including the Hep B as well. I think there were 4 shots + one oral vaccination (which she sucked right down and seemed to like!). She screamed for about 3 minutes. I shushed her, gave her the binky and she was over it!

She slept really well for the rest of the day and that night. I gave her Tylenol when we got home, just in case, but she was fine.

ETA: I brought a bottle, too, but had to use it beforehand because the dr. was running late. Next time, I'll bring 2.

I always bring a bottle with me and gave it to Jack right after he got the shots - calmed him down right away.

I agree about the bottle...worked awesome with DD. Expect to most likely cry...very hard to watch.

i only give 2 shots per visit..but i remember the 2 month shots being painful for him afterwards..i should of given him the tylenol right after the shots b/c he fell asleep and woke up hysterical..def have tyenol around

My DS had his 2 month shots last week. It was 4 shots and 1 oral. He cried for a few minutes but got over it pretty quickly. I gave him tylenol when we got home to avoid any discomfort. He was a little cranky getting to sleep but when he did he slept for 10 hours . The next day he was pretty sleepy too, but he was happy when he was awake.

My son had his first set of vaccines at 10 weeks. He only had two shots and we still have to get the hep b shot. He cried instantly, but calmed down within a few minutes. He did not have any reaction to the shots, if anyting he was a little more sleepy that day. I was very nervous, but it was not too bad.

I totally agree with the bottle. I EBF and literally breast fed him for just a minute or two right after the shots (this calmed him down very quicky). I also had tylenol on hand but did not use it. I would recommend waiting to use it bc he may not even need it. I wanted to wait to see if he did have a reaction so I know for the future

I was so worried before the first set of vaccines, but DS did fine and had no reaction at all.

My dd has also had all vacines accoriding to schedule and has had no reaction
