Long Island People-Cable options
My grandfather has Cablevision/Optonline. He went with the triple play and for the first year, he was paying $108 for tv and phone (he doesn't use the internet but needed it for the phone). Well, the year ended and now he's paying about $150. We're talking basic cable.
I'm trying to figure out his options because that is a LOT for him.
He's really only looking for basic cable/dvr and basic phone (he calls no farther than Cali). He also wants to keep his phone number, which he knows he might have to pay to keep.
What do you guys do for phone and cable?

Call them up and tell them you're switching to Fios unless they knock the price down to like $69 a month. I get direct mail from them EVERY DAY that says $69 for all 3.

Yes, I would call as well. You have to call the cancellation department because no other departments have the powers they do to reduce your bill. Takes time to argue, but it is so worth it!

absolutely call them and tell them its for your grandfather. And speak to the cancellation dept. If one person doesn't get you the deal you want, then get off the phone and try again later with someone else. I was able to get my parents the triple play rate guranteed for 2 years but it took a while.
The FIOS excuse doesn't really work anymore, too many people hate fios and switch back.

This is true however once you leave, they offer you the sun, the moon and the stars to get you back!
I have to say myself and a few of my friends have all just recently switched to FIOS and except for having to get used to new channel #s, none of us have complains!
And I can say I was 100% anti-FIOS before but my bill last month was under $140 WITH my cell phone which I thought was reasonable!

I have to agree.....I was anti FIOS but now we have it and love it. the only issue we had was with our phone and it ended up being the actual phone not the service but they gave us 4 free months of premium movies channels.
If the OP's GF was to go with FIOS he wouldnt need the internet to get the phone so it would be cheaper for him.
