Don't eat in Times Square -- too many tourist things. Go over to 9th ave and walk north from 42nd, and you will find dozens of fabulous, affordable restaurants. Or go to 47th between 8th and 9th, that is sort of like the restaurant row for Hell's Kitchen with many great choices. I used to live on 42nd and 11th ave and 9th ave had every possible restaurant choice!

I also like Tony DiNapoli's and Carmines like PP.
There is also churasscara plataforma - an all you can eat meat brazilian rodizio restaurant. Amazing and unique, but need to be with meat eaters!

Totally agree with getting out of Times Square.
I do have one suggestion though that kind of beats the whole vibe. La Masseria on 48th between b'way and 8th.
Excellent food.

It is just off times square by the Mariott Marquis, on 44th I think.

Simply Pasta on 41st between 6th & 7th. It's just right outside the times square nuttiness, but still in the heart of all of it. And it's really reasonably priced.
