I would find a good Judaica store - I'm sure there are plenty on LI - they will have lots of appropriate gifts for baby.
I like the idea of getting a "kids" menorah especially for baby - there are a lot of cute ones out there for kids, and a family can never have too many menorahs!  And, that way the baby can have it his whole life, and pass it down to his children when he gets older... I inherited my grandmother's menorah and love it

These are adorable! I would definitely get something like this for Chanukah. This is something a child can appreciate and use each year.
A mezuzah is a good idea too. I'm Jewish, but DH isn't. I'm not overly religious, but I've always had a mezuzah wherever I've lived.

I have one of those menorahs with a train on it, and the quality is terrible. Its adorable, but the pain came off when I cleaned the wax off with hot water.
Make sure you get one thats good quality!!

I don't know where you live but if you're looking for mezuzahs or menorahs for kids there's a store in Merrick called Yussell's Place. They also have a website. I'm not sure if it's spelled with 1 or 2 l's.
