I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's scientifically impossible. Either the hormone the HPT is detecting is there, or it's not. If it's not, but you get a BFP later, you probaby weren't enough DPO to detect it.

I would think the only way you can is if you are testing too early
The problem with the tests out now is that they make you believe that just because it says it can detect pregnancy up to 5 days before AF is due, that its some sort of wonder tool.
I think the only foolproof way of knowing is waiting until AF is due, and then testing. If you have a negative then, then i'd assume you're not.
you'll drive yourself crazy otherwise

This is the part that confuses me b/c there is no definate date that AF is due - they are only estimates based on either when you think you O'd and your LP or averages of your previous cycles

You can get BFN and then a BFP if you tested too early. When I was pregnant with my DD I got a BFN at 9DPO but a BFP at 10DPO. Some people don't get their BFP until longer past their "O" date so I would keep testing. You never know. Good luck!
