Need your inputs...how to tell the fam...

So...

We are FINALLY going to tell our families the wonderful news about our little Goober, but we are at a little bit of a loss on how to do it.

We are having a HUGE Thanksgiving with both families and we want to announce it at dinner...any suggestions on how to?

we don't usually do the go around the table and say what you are thankful for thing so i'm not sure what to do....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Need your inputs...how to tell the fam...

Since going around the table is not what you usually do, do you have a little child that will be at dinner? If so, you can either ask THEM what they are thankful for, and get it started. Or, pull them aside (if they are a little older, like 7 or 8) and have them ask you at dinner what you are thankful for this year. Then you can announce.

We don't go around the table in our families either. What we are doing is bringing a cake and printing this out and just putting it on the cake.

We do Thanksgiving at my families on thursday and then Sunday we do a after thanksgiving at my inlaws. So I have to get 2 cakes.

We got everyone in my family a book. The "ALl about mygrandmother/Grandfather/aunt" book. Thats how we're telling them at christmas

We are also putting a peanut in a small baby food jar, covering the top with cloth (like the way the country jars look) and making them guess.. :)

Maybe u can make an announcement and say, "We may have a bit of an issue next Thanksgiving....we're going to need room for a high chair?"

Are you bringing anything for the meal? Maybe you can bring dessert, similar to the idea above. Have the cake say "We're having a baby!" and leave it in the box until it's time to serve it.

this is what i am going to do but it's a running joke in my family that i always say grace since i ONCE insisted to do so when i was 6.

can you say, you'd like to start something new where you go around and say what you're thankful for? and you can try to fix it so you go last.

We're (hopefully!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon ) telling our families on Thanksgiving too! I may steal one of these ideas! I was just going to wait until someone offered me wine and say something like..."Can you ask me that again in June, it's really not good for the baby!" Or maybe we'll bring sparkling cider and somehow use that as a way? I don't know!!

I have a lot of little children in the family and would prefer only the adults know now and wait a few more weeks to tell the children (Christmas maybe) so I have to choose my timing well.

Re: Need your inputs...how to tell the fam...

it's so hard being creative the 3rd time in one year...

first time we did a happy bday grandpa card for my dad (he didn't get it right away Chat Icon Chat Icon ) to tell my fam and then the oh i can't drink thing for DH's fam

second time we gave both of our mom's grandma books since it was mother's day...

i guess that's why we are having a hard time figuring out what to do, and also why we are waiting so long to tell...hmmm maybe we can try to do the "im thankful for..." thing but not so easy to get all adults to do it...

i was thinking maybe i could make DH give a toast at the beginning of dinner???

EDIT...oh and the dessert thing won't work cuz some people have to leave to do dessert at other houses.

How about this... instead of having everyone go around to say what they're thankful for, just stand up and say something like "I know we don't usually do this, but I am extremely thankful this year and want to share why... we're having a baby!"

I also like the idea of doing the toast before dinner and announcing then.

Re: Need your inputs...how to tell the fam...

if you dont want to go around the table, how about start off by saying you want to give a toast.

We found out around mother's day so when we told my grandma, aunt and uncle we brought a framed picture of the sonogram. At first they didnt get it and then my aunt screamed out OMG is that your baby???!!! it was a nice reaction
